Small SUV / Crossover / Truck / Car just about covers it depending on what reference you look at it. It really came out of nowhere last year...

I will bend to the point that the interior was nice and would seat 4 people like the original gto .It fit me like a glove the 6 speed was wild the auto was fun . If they had done what ford did with the stang I would have done everything in my power to buy one. when they get into the affordable price range I stll might buy one but I'm more in love with the t bird it's not a hot rod but I would park a new one next to my 56 any day of the week

So we agree its a fast car that is drab looking. Does your ego need that kind of boost that you would ignore breathtaking performance and a fantastic interior because no one will notice you? Do you buy cars to convey some kind of "status" to the world, or do you buy them for transportation?
.
It's not about ego. When you buy jeans do you buy em 2 sizes too small just cause you saved a couple of bucks? If I was looking for a status symbol I'd be driving the H2/H3 suv down the beltway next to all the other BMW's etc...

If I was buying a car just for transportation it would be an import hybrid 30+/-MPG.

So....according to your last statement we should all get in line like sheep and follow the rest of the lemmings.

Maybe then we could all have 2.5 kids and live in the same style houses with the same style clothes and the same style jobs....GET THE POINT.

Again, same thing I've been saying all along. If the performance matched the looks, included a budget model with the high performance options ... one could repeat what the GTO did 40 years ago.

I don't know how car sales are in your neck of the woods but i can safely say most of the kids (18-21) around here are driving imports.

If domestic manufacturers ever wanna climb back to the top of the heap they better figure something out.

You are making assumptions. I could give a rats ass about everyone else. The car has to look good to me and me only.

LOL, again your ignorance about the sales volume's of the current GTO shows. The GTO wasn't meant to compete with the Mustang as far as sales went..it was meant to compete with the 3Series coup, G35 Coupe, etc. Do you know the sales figures of those cars?
I know that sales figures aren't meeting expectations when dealers are giving them away

So in comparison to the G35C and 3Series and others where does the GTO compare? Also keep in mind they are giving them away in comparison to a G35C(not sure what the 3 series cars sells for, nor do I care) .

Funny you haven't answered one question that I have asked throughout this entire thread. You have dodged everyone of them. Much like you are doing now. ......Smoke and Mirrors.

You claim to have all this knowledge regarding production figures etc...Yet you can't seem to anwer the question with a valid link to your source.

Everything I've said is based on my opinion. I don't claim to be a GM guru.

Which questions would those be? I know the production numbers of the GTO...which years of cars would you like to know?

Buying jeans too small has everything to do with performance of the product, not style. Does the performance of the GTO product not meet your requirements? ... Or is the lack of distinctive style the main reason you will ignore the other attributes. Not trying to be argumentative, but you keep switching sides in your responses. You either put a higher priority on hard requirements like performance, or you value some kind of style above all else. Which is it?

This statement leads me to believe that you are looking for some kind of toy. In that case, you can be choosy about your ride. I use mine as a tool to get to work. The little hybrids do not meet my performance requirements to complete that task.

There's no line to get one of these cars pal! My point is simple: If you want a great performing car at a great price, get on board and buy one. If it sounds like I am a cheerleader for the car all of the sudden, that is not the case. I'm just sick of the complaints from all these "performance" people who have a problem with the way the car looks. News flash people: It looks like all the other cars today, just like the 60's. And just like in the 60's, this particular model hauls ass!

The interior was nice. The seats had to be one of the best features. I could drive all day in those things. Why?

If it were re-styled, I'd consider one. If I liked the re-styling of course.

Many folks (like me) feel the 04'-06' thing is much less than appealing. Every time I see one, I have a sense of disapointment. It just looks bland (to me).

I want a car that I look at through the window or sitting in the garage and enjoy the looks. The 04'-06' doesn't do that for me.

GO thru the entire thread and read my post...My stance has been the same all along. I like the perfomance aspect of the current GTO....I just don't like the wrapper. I think it's great what they did perfomance wise. I am dissapointed that it's looks don't compliment the performance.

Exactly
I am trying to decide wether to restore a 65-67 GTO/Le Mans or wait and see what happens in 09. I'd love a classic and I don't think anything will ever look or feel the same(you don't have to agree with me). Just not sure I have the time to invest in a restoration and I am too cheap to pay anyone for work I can do myself. Next best thing would be a modern muscle car.

Just because your into performance doesn't mean you have to comprimise on looks. Some are fine with the looks some are not.

It's not like it's a secret, most of the articles and reviews and comments from owners only have one complaint....STYLING

For those of you that don't mind the current styling, consider yourself lucky...You get to enjoy those ponies long before more discriminating buyers.

So, by "more discriminating" you mean those obsessed with look-at-me styling, right? Okay, it's obvious you don't get it. Would you call Mustang buyers discriminating? Or Charger buyers? Discriminating buyers place quality above outward appearance. It DOES matter to some people. And personally, I don't even have a complaint about the styling. It's much better than what was available from 1973 to 2003.

POSTED BY GRX:
My beef is .... that Pontiac should not have used the GTO name on the car. Seems like a cheap attempt to boost sales IMO. And the sales numbers agree with me. When 1st released the new GTO did not sell well at all. Nobody who was into GTOs liked it. But once a few hit the streets, and the reviewers got to really drive the cars, they started selling pretty well.[/QUOTE]

Amen!!
We have a 2006. Bought it New York for $27,500 in the begining of December and drove it back to Montana. Already has headers and shifter. Cam, pulley, CAI and wheels in a few weeks and then it will put down over 400 HP to the tires! The fit and finish and bang for the buck is awesome. BUT, I agree, they should NOT have named it a GTO. I think it was stupid on GM's part to bring back that name and just slap it on a car. To me, it made Pontiac look like idiots. I think if they named it ANYTHING else, sales would have been better since they had done away with their RWD platform; and people would have really noticed. As usual, Pontiac plays second fiddle to Chevy and all the hoopla with the Camaro. Pisses me off all the attention the Camaro got in Hot Rod. Somebody at Pontiac needs a kick in the head to take notice on what is going on and what people are buying.

So if they made a new retro one would I buy it? Yea. But then I think I would have a hard time selling ours...I mean who would buy it? lol Pontiac screwed the pooch on this whole deal...
