Default Engine serial number on 89 Trans Am GTA

Does anyone know where on the engine I can find the factory numbers. I recently aquired a 1989 Trans Am GTA with a 350ci and am trying to determine if the engine is original. I was told the last four numbers should match the last four of the VIN.

This belongs in Pontiacs with non Pontiac engines. And who cares?

Its on a machined pad at the head/block seam on the passenger side behind the A/C compressor.

Thanks, Do you know anything else about engine numbers? All I see there is either a #7 or a poorly stamped Z, I think it's the Z. Or do you know where I can look this code up?
