"Quote" I personally have not had the car weighed, however I have a copy of the original invoice on the car and the Manufacture shows the Curb weight to be 3634.Again not sure how accuate that is,but I know it's lighter than a T/A.
The shipping curb weights were usually done with only 3-4 gallons of gas, but sounds about right for a low option '74. IIRC, a '74 TA shipping weight was 3760 for a no option car. So 130 lbs lighter would mean, all other things being equal, about .13 quicker to the other end of a quarter.

Right now we have a front fender off putting in a new blower motor (pain in the a$$), rearend out, interior out and doing some detailing on the underside and engine bay ect.. and Ron still has to pick up the motor in MI hopefully in the next few weeks. Our goal is to have it back together by the end of April running as we really only have time on the weekends with our jobs, kids, ect.. and I really only have time on Sundays to help. Then we have to go get the new exhaust put so if all goes well he wants to do some t&t in May to shake the car down for the Martin race in June. We have a track in Joliet which is only an hour away and she is a good one.
I am sure the car will run good but she is heavy and forgot to mention it has air conditioning. We hope to be in the 12 sec club. I see you are getting well into the 11's now. Nice. We plan on going to the Co-vention as well to run in the PS portion on that Friday. We may take the 68 Firebird as I am putting a 4.10 in and changing the muffler on it. We will see how things go.

http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=168929 Will take a break from working on it this weekend with the Daytona 500 and NBA All Star game going on but I think Ron is planning on making the trip to pick up the motor this week if all goes well. We hope to be able to test around here in May. That will be fun ![]() As far as a class goes for what we refer to "Virgin Stock" cars, they can be raced along side Pure Stock cars. Some cars that run there are virgin, some rebuilt to factory specs, and some to NHRA allowable specs. Keep in mind there is nothing to win, just fun. Jody

Don't NHRA Specs actually allow quite a bit of minor tweaking in bore, head work, compression? I remember reading many years ago, in Hot Rod mag a build on an NHRA Super Duty and it surprised me the number of mods and extensive high dollar prep in it....

Is there a class for stock cars that have NOT been rebuilt and use the original drive train they were born with?,no replacement engines no rebuilds but original never rebuilt drive train cars?

71 455HO Trans Am. White/blue deluxe. It is all buttoned up and runs awesome. It has a M22W wide ratio (2.52 first). Now the tires can be fried from a roll anytime in first or second. I am planning a movie in the near future like my 76 movie which you probably have seen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrWe6dE3TMw The 76 only had a 7.6 cr smog legal motor breathing through a single catalytic converter, so the 71 has a lot more power. |

Bird72, yes, NHRA rules for Stock Eliminator are fairly liberal. Much more so than they were 20-30 years ago. As a veteran of NHRA Super Stock for nearly 20 years, it amazes me today, what they allow for Stock or Super Stock.
An example; I ran SS/G with a '67 Camaro 396, 325 HP. These cars, showroom stock, but with better traction, would run 13.90 -14.10. But set up as a legal SS/G, we were running 10.90-11.00's. Today, I see some guys with this combo have run 9.90's! Hardly stock! |

I went to a wide ratio (2.52 first gear) Muncie M22 Rockcrusher in my 71 455HO. I wanted to improve on the stock dead 2.20 first gear. This made a tremendous improvement in the low end torque and drivability of the car. If you analyze the numbers, it is like going from the stock 3.42 rear end ratio to a 3.90. Now the problem is getting enough traction to put the power to the ground. I am running F60 Firestone Wide Oval bias ply. They go up in smoke all the way through first and second. I have thoughts of running soft compound drag radial or bias ply tires, but it is also nice to be able to light up the tires anywhere in first or second. I may go to 245-60 Radial TA's for something in between.
