Anyone know of a source for correct SD455 intake gaskets. In the photo I have posted the intake gasket is "squared off" on the end. I have not seen this feature on any of the aftermarket gaskets. I know I can get an aftermarket gasket that will work but I also want one that is correct in appearance.

I thought that Felpro offered an intake set for the roundport 455's?
I'll have to look & see if I can come up with a part # for you. |

I have a set in inventory (spares) of a part number GR.3-270 or 1-9796613 PE2 which will work on the 1971 HO, or the 73-74 SD engine.
The repops follow the curve of the intake manifold v/s the originals which are squared off at the corners. Bottom line they both work but its all up to what your trying to acheive? Brewster |

The 9796613 GM gasket fits 69-70 RA IV and 71 455 HO. It does not fit 72 455 HO or 73-74 455 SD, the exhaust crossover opening is not the same size.
If you want the stock appearing gaskets for a 72 HO or a 73-74 455 SD, they are not available. If you are patient, you can use the 71 HO gasket on the 455 SD by cutting out the center part of the gasket and using the center part from a 72-79 Pontiac intake gasket. The 72-79 will have the smaller exhaust crossover hole. The challenge is to keep the pieces aligned when installing the manifold. Some gasket adhesive and sealer would be needed. The stock appearing gasket for the 69-70 RA IV and the 71 455 HO is still available from Car Quest, Victor and Napa. The number is MS15174. Unfortunately, this gasket set does not include the orange rings to help hold the gasket in place. |

Yeah, thats correct now that you mention it. They have been sitting in my inventory for years and they even have 1971 455 HO on them.
I hope I never have to use them but if I do I'll make them work to maintain that stock appearance. |

i bought a couple sets from here last year.they are gr 3.270 part # 487078.i think these are the 72 ho 455 gaskets as they have the small exhaust crossover, but they are not squared off, they are cut at an angle.

Thanks for the replies. It would appear then that I would need the GM 487079 in order to have the "correct" appearance. If anyone has some of these at a reasonable price I would be interested. Thanks.

I used my last nos set when I tore the top off the race car. I kept the used ones. I'm using the cast iron intake.

I think the intack ports on the #487079 are to small to fit the 73-74 SD ports.

Napa switched their gasket supplier to Fel-Pro about a year so thats a no-go for a source for the original style Victor gaskets now.

I think Ken from H-O Racing still carries the proper ones as well.
