John may be on to something here. Dealers even today must go through a "Tagging" process on special-ordered cars. When I ordered my G8, the dealer (In my case it was Enterprise Fleet Leasing working with their "favorite Pontiac dealer") had to "Tag" a car that was either already produced or scheduled to be produced. Once they Tagged my car, we could then follow its progress through the system. I actually have the build sheet for it (there were two, one in the glove box and one under the trunk mat) but neither of them say "TAG" or anything else hand-written for that matter. Just a thought.

I agree; "Tagging" is still the word choice that is used today to describe setting aside a particular vehicle for employee purchase. I had kind of come to this same conclusion regarding these build sheets except for the earlier comment about seeing so many from the Pontiac plant ("tagged" vehicles would be the exception rather than the rule).

I found a Lakewood built 72 LeMans sheet inside the driver's door panel, door handle punched right thru it. Not sure on Pontiac built 72.

Thanks! Makes me want to pull off the door panel this weekend on my 71 Lakewood GTO. I'm pretty sure it has never been off the car yet.

My guess is that "TAC" has gotta be a Pontiac Plant assembly line supervisor's or employee's initials.

I don't think so; the whole time I was an assembly line supervisor I never signed anything with my signature or intials - except for the time (pay) sheet.

Any notations on a build sheet or a repair ticket would be coded to a specific hole punch or department (not an individual).

My 70 Judge has "TAC" scribbled across the sheet as well.

Would like to know more about the laquer thinner restoration......soak it for an hour or so? Hate to destroy the thing.

I got a glass cake pan and put about an inch of lacquer thinner in it and gently put my build sheet in there for a soak. It was completely black and saturated with sound deadener. I kept agitating the pan and swishing the thinner around gently. Eventually the build sheet came to life, like a Polaroid. Then I pulled it out gently and let it air dry. The photo earlier in this thread shows what's left. It got fairly mangled trying to get it free from the tar sound deadener. I wish it was all there, but it's better than nothing. I never found one in my Arlington-built Judge.

I have a few build sheets from 68 Pontiac built cars and they have the "TAC" written on them. Deffinately a TAC, who knows what it means though? Scott

a) Do all the cars that say "TAC" have air conditioning on them?

b) Does anyone have a Pontiac build sheet (during this same timeframe) that does not have "TAC" written on it?

I believe I answered my own question:

I see the "Less Stripes" car says "TAC" but is apparently less A/C.

Still interested in a Pontiac build sheet that doesn't say "TAC", if anyone has one.

Here are a couple Keith . . .

First one is a RA IV GTO with quite a few handwritten comments. Has a typed "TAG", but no handwritten "TAC".

Second is from my '72 GTO, 455HO M22 w/ A/C. No "TAC", but has a handwritten "MA" near the bottom. Sorry for the blurry scan.

Black '71 M40 Judge w/ the G60 tire option. Just what appears to be a check mark on this one.

Ive looked under rear seats and atop fuel tank and no build sheet. My '72 Goat has been sitting tucked away for 25 years so I dont expect the previous owner cared about snagging the build sheet way back then. I'm wondering... are there any other hiding spots that have been confirmed on '72 GTO models? Ill look next behind the door panels I guess. Thanks

It's quite possible that you'll find a build sheet stuck in/to the tar-like underlayment under the carpet, near the driveshaft tunnel.
