My friend has 2. I'm sure that there were more than 50. I had heard that there we 17 428 HO 4speed convs.

There have been more that have showed up in this area in the past 20 years.

I converted mine into one 16 years ago.

That's interesting Steve. Mate of mine imported one into Australia about 4 years back. It was a 428 4 speed (dunno about the HO part??) Dark Red with black interior, disc brakes, power everything. Super nice looking car but the engine had a death rattle and the gear box howled badly.

He advertised it for sale but eventually it was sold to a buyer in New Zealand. I'd assume it's still over there.

I too would be interested in finding one of these cars. I am just now finishing a full frame on resto on a 67 Bonneville. It was my grandmothers car (bought new) and I am now the third gen owner. I learned to drive mostly in this car and it has been garage kept all it's life. 60K mile and it is a 2 dr maroon with white painted top and parchment int. I also have 70 GTO CV 4SP, A/C car and I would like to add a 67 GP to the collection.

gtoric's brother has a '67 GP convertible, but I do not recall if it is a 4 speed or automatic.

That's a number's matching, PHS-documented, 4-speed. It's been in the family for more than twenty-five years. It's a real crowd-pleaser. I find it amusing to stand back at shows and listen to the startled reactions when people look into the interior to see the third pedal on the floor, and the straight stick poking through the console.

My engine production log states the following manual transmission installation builds for 1967 Grand Prix series 66 (both hardtop and convertible):
29 - XY (400, 4bbl, w/A.I.R.)
536 - XZ (400, 4bb)

For the entire Pontiac line, including Grand Prix, here are the MT totals for the 428ci:
824 - WG (428)
45 - YY (428, A.I.R.)
385 - WJ (428HO)
27 - YK (428HO, A.I.R.)

Total MT installs into full-sized Pontiacs in 1967 was 5,424 units; that's out of a total of 433,714 builds. 1.25% of all big Ponticas built received a manual transmission in 1967!
To further extrapolate, bear in mind that GP droptops made up about 14% of the GP production, and total GP production accounted for about 10% of the full-sized Pontiac production.

I know of 5, in Ohio (or rather, I have seen 5 in Ohio in the last few years - might be sold/gone by now)
One 428 bench seat car that's all original a guy still has

We used to have a '67 gp hardtop 4spd, so we always watch when we find 'em
A guy in Akron has at least 2, maybe 3...that I recently saw


I always heard there were less than 700 total 4spd GP's (hardtop and convertible), so that makes sense out of those numbers

When I converted mine, I bought a rough 4 speed 67 GP HT and parted that and a rough 67 Bonneville 4 speed conv. Remember it was around 1991 and things were very different.

I met a guy back in 1990 who had a 3-speed GP convertible. He parted it out after an accident and saved all the components. In about 2004, I was able to buy all the trans related components from his family.

Back in 1992 I had just gotten my first 65 2+2. I was driving country roads one day spoted a 65 GP next to a barn. As I was looking for a parts car I kept stopping at the house until I met the owner. I finally did meet the owner (a 50 year old single farmer) and seeing that I was driving a 2+2 he agreed to sell me the GP (it was a 389, 4spd 3.42 car).

Over the next couple months we became friends (I bought the car in the winter and I was unable to pick it up until spring). When I picked the 65 up he showed me his "good" car. It was a 67 GP 428 HO 4spd convertible. The car was like new with 17,000 miles on it. He bought the car new and had never driven it in the winter (that was what the 65 GP was for). He wanted a car he could street race and use to impress girls and take on dates. It didn't work well for either. I was lucky to have a couple good friends with me at the time as "witnesses" but unfurtuneately no camera.

I tryed to look him up a few years ago and he had sold the farm. I hope he still has the GP.

Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

They were nicely restored cars though - new everything...from door panels to bodywork. His shop does good work

gtoric, does your brother live in the greater Detroit area? I was at the Woodward Dreamcruise a few years back and saw one like his on display in Pontiac, MI. Later the next day, I was able to chat with him at a light on Woodward. Car looks and sounds great!!

Yes, he lives north of Pontiac. He has been participating in the Dream Cruise for the last seven years with this car. Did he have his dogs with him at the time?

I don't remember any dogs, we just chatted for a moment, and he was off!

Seemed like a nice enough fellow.

I should be going this year again. I'll sure try to look him up. I got to look the car over one other year I was there, but I was unable to find him.

I have all the components to make a GP a 4-speed. My hope is to find the right car someday and install all of it.

My fantasy is to walk up to your brother, hand him a blank check, and drive his car away!
