Default solutions for bigger exhaust hitting my crossmember

With a 3" exhaust system on my car, the trans crossmember and my exhaust pipes touch eachother. It bothers me when i hit bigger bumps or have a passenger in the car weighing the car down a little more...bc that is when they rub eachother.

Just wondering if anyone has a solution, I have seen on summits site that they have there own crossmember for 3" or bigger exhaust, anyone have one?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku

any thoughts?

I know torque tech used to make and angled collector extension which could be used to lower the pipes a little but i could not find it on there website.

What about replacing that section of tubing with oval three inch thus removing the diameter problem.

There is this...
http://www.ramairrestoration.com/cat...roducts_id=271

and have you checked your body bushings? If they're compressed then the body would be closer to the frame....I had that problem way back when.

I just had the same problem when I installed a 3" pypes system. Drivers side, so when I really got on the gas, you could hear it hit the cross member. I figured my collector extention could not be perfect and I would take advantage of that. so I removed it, got it to the bench and determined which direction it angled (slightly), then reinstall with it angled down. I also marked the pipe and put a small dent in it, not enough in my opinion to effect flow. These two changes fixed my problem. Good luck.

that could be part of my problem...the bushings are original although still look like they are in good shape (the ones I can see at least) but they are probably beat up by now.

so for a $200 fix, im wondering if that summit crossmember would be a good piece, i could care less about keeping my car original!

I had the same issue with the 3" exhaust on my car. I simply unbolted the header pipes and gently jacked the offending pipe into the crossmember using a floor jack, but just enough to slightly dent the pipe. Problem solved and I have'nt noticed any performance loss.

thanks for the link.
from the way it looks, the summit and g-force piece is basically the same....any thoughts or has nobody gone with the summit product?
it looks like summit is about 50$ cheaper, just wondering if its worth the savings.

I can't tell from the picture how tall the trans mount is, but a thinner mount would lower the pipes in relation to the crossmenber. If you are feeling really brave you can do what I did. I had the car up on the lift, drove my tractor underneath, and chained one exhaust pipe at a time to the front tractor bumper. I then blipped the lift up until I was happy with the clearance. There's about a dozen things that can go terribly wrong doing this, but it worked for me.

This is the reason I didn't do 3" on the daily driver. Anyway, yeah, I was going to suggest body mounts too. Something to check for sure, amazing how much space that can rob. Denting them is another option, as others have pointed out, as is using a different x-member. The Summit one looks like the G-Force one, wonder why or how they get away with saying 'patented double-hump design'. You can also go to a fab shop somewhere by you and have them make one, probably be roughly the same cost....

Just figure I would throw an update in this thread if anyone was going through the same problem...I ended up ordering the Summit model bc it was cheaper and they had additional money off of all summit products, I just got the part in today and it turns out its the G-force crossmember anyways...at the summit price! (has the g-force instructions and sticker!)
Great deal I must say, I didnt install it yet because its damn near 100degrees here today, ill let you know if I have any issues with the install.

I'm curious how it turns out, and would love to see some pics. I need to do something with my crossmember, not happy with it, and was thinking the g-force is the way to go....

Well the crossmember got installed, had a little issue with the clearance of the driveshaft and the loop. Took a ride yesterday and its not banging the exhaust much anymore, but its still banging something. Only thought is that its the transmission shifting around, I have a poly mount for the trans, but my thoughts are that I have rubber engine mounts and maybe its just not firm enough. The banging comes from the passenger side, closer to the trans tunnel, only on bigger bumps, and more common with someone in the passenger side riding along.
Is it time for some stronger motor mounts? My car shakes like a motherf'er already from the engine, I would think it would only get worst with poly or solid motor mounts...thoughts?
