Default Totoya Highlander & Honda Pilot opinions

...would be appreciated. My girlfriend's insurance company is totaling her Liberty (can't say I was upset about that) and her first choice now is a used Pilot then the Highlander. Clearly two reputable brands but I know nothing of these models.

Buy the Highlander..........

My wife has a 2005 Highlander, she loves it. It is very roomy, and the back seat recline feature is a plus!!!!

I dont know much about the Toyota, but I drove an 06 Pilot on a long drive a couple of months back. Roomy but a bit underpowered. Fit and finish were excellent. Although she was having a few challenges with small stuff.

Personally, I dont think you could go wring with either. Drive both and decide which one you like best. I think in this case its personal preference.

My girlfriend has a Pilot & loves it. It seats 8, is gets good gas mileage, and seems to be a very well built vehicle.

Both are car based, Vs truck based, so the ride is good on both.

I'd go with the Toyota, but you can't go wrong with either.

The highlander hasn't been car-based since 2007

While the highlander was re-designed for 08, it's still based on the Camry.

"The Highlander is a so-called crossover SUV, meaning it's built more like a car than a truck. The Highlander is based on the architecture of the Toyota Camry midsize sedan. As a result, the Highlander offers a quiet cabin and a luxurious ride quality. Overall, we found the 2008 Toyota Highlander to be a pleasant way to a group of people. "

Dollar to dollar value, I would think the Pilot would be the better deal. Not saying it is a better vehicle or anything, but it does not have the resale value the Highlander does. I have a friend who owns a Honda dealership and the older body style Pilots were being marketed aggressively with incentives because they just were not moving like the CR-V etc.. I was told it was because there was a surplus of them and they were not as good on gas in comparison to the CR-V.

Honda originally came out with that truck to battle the Ford Explorer.

My wife drives a 2001 Highlander V-6 that we bought new. She loves it. It has almost 90,000 miles on it and the only problem has been one bad sensor.
I change the oil every 5,000 miles and had the timing belt replaced at 60,000 as preventitive maintenance. Front brake shoes have been replaced once and it is still on the original spark plugs.
We have made several long trips in it and they were comfortable.
In reference to the American made cars I could tell you why I switched from Pontiac to Toyota but, that is another story.

Having owned 2 Honda Odyssey's, the vehicle the Pilot shares it's architecture with, I'd look at the Pilot. Our Honda's have been bulletproof. Saying that, I also have a 2005 Tundra and it also has been bulletproof. I think you get a little more for your money with the Pilot.

The Highlander is Camry based.

"Agree. Hard core AMERICANS buy AMERICAN cars!"

Only a true idiot would type that statement and then have an avatar of a "new" GTO. Which just happens to be his car. Where in America was your car built? I guess you typed your reply on a Magnavox computer.

I've driven both, I prefer the Pilot, felt more solid and truck-like.

Has she driven both vehicles? My wife prefers the ride of the highlander and she likes the way it sits up. Men may like the truck feel of the Pilot but most women will take the car like ride of the Toyota.

If you're concerned about safety, the Pilot has airbags everywhere. They are the newest generation that senses how much weight is in the seat and deploys the airbags accordingly to prevent injury.
