Owner is a friend of mine. The SD is currently sleeping while the owner is heavily into Vipers. He lives north of Chicago.

So in other words, the SD is being held captive. Tell the owner to let that Bird fly, set it free, and sell it to a true Pontiac fan!

Unfortunatly I don't have any recent pics. If fact the last time I saw the car was at the Nats a few years ago. Dennis Gage was there doing a segment for "My classic car" tv show and Steve did a couple burnouts with Dennis in the car. If fact they did a couple takes of the burnout because he would backup and then forget to put the car back in first gear, and launch in reverse!

Hopefully Viperitis will pass soon and the SD will wake.

If my memory is correct, it was at a small local (barely advertised) car show last year. I see if it's there at this year's show in a couple of weeks.

Here's a scan of a couple of pics I took at the 2000 TA Nats. I do remember Dennis Gage being there.

Thanks for the pics -- I read when the T/A was restored - the SD's engine compression was raised to 10-1 - Roller cam etc.

fiedlerh, which show are you talking about?
I have one of my cars parked at EvBoCo in Northwest sub and would love to hit a local show with some other f-body buddies.

Here is a picture from last year's show. It appears to be alive and well.

The link to the show info: http://www.cruisinforthekids.com BTW this is a very small show open to any make. There are usually 5 or 6 Pontiacs.

No idea if the car will be there this year (I don't know the owner)

Those early radials tended to explode if driven too fast. I imagine the shock absorber troubles were caused by the crappy tires. From the Brock Yates article:
Quote:
12th. Dave Shugars, Ann Arbor, Michigan; Dennis Weglarz, South Lyon, Michigan; Ron McConkey, Milford, Massachusetts; 1974 Pontiac Trans Am; 40 hours, 43 minutes; average speed, 71.3 mph: These are three engineers, on vacation from the emissions laboratory at the proving grounds at what we will enigmatically describe as a Big Three automaker, ran an immaculate Firebird with one of the rare 455 super-duty engines and a tall 2.60 final drive. Unfortunately, a speeding bust, shock absorber troubles and set of radials that were excellent in the rain but limited top speed to 110 mph ruined their chances for a high placing.

Cool pic - when Steve Loudin last entered his 74 SD in the Cannonball Race after it was restored he hit 150 mph with it --good tires ( Z rated ) does make a difference .
He also got a AWARD from Brock Yates -- Awesome !!!! .
Heres a pic from that race --more for fun though .

Steve's car was there today. I'd talk to him, but he wasn't around. Also had a couple of his Vipers there:

Downtown Grayslake. Small show, probably about 75 cars of all makes. See the link a few posts up. It's called the Cruzin for Kids charity car show.
