The car I just bought has a double pumper Holley carb on it. The carb doesn't work very well because it has been sitting for a couple years. My ?? is will that carb work with the shaker setup ??? There are parts missing for that and figure I would look for a quadrajet if the holley won't work !!

Holley carbs are problematic (firestarters/gas leakers) even with regular maintenance.

Your airfilter housing will likely need to be adjusted (with a hammer) for float bowl clearance.

With proper tuning/tweaking,a quadrajet will offer similar performance levels without the Holley related headaches.

The shaker will fit/look better with quadrajet installed.

I just converted my 455 in my 72 from Holley to correct Quadrajet. I now can use correct valve covers, breather tube, Ram Air pan, choke set-up, throttle bracket, on and on. And like you, my Holley sat for a couple years, and was never the same, leaked, ran bad, so I either had to rebuild or go correct. It was a lot of nick-nacky part hunting to do my conversion, but it is far more street friendly and smooth running. And I have Ram Air!

and you don't want to screw up a shaker to fit a Holley..............

Thanks, I figured that was what I should do and will can the Holley. I just need to find a suitable quadrajet . Thanks again !!

You can probably sell it to some Ford or Chevy guy. (just don't tell them it's a barbeque starter)

The biggest benefit of the Holley's is they don't suffer a lot of the fuel starvation problems the Quad's are known for in the more extreme apps. I'd say unless you're doing some crazy engine building run a stock Quad and you'll be plenty happy. They're very tunable and offer decent economy and performance. I have nothing bad to say about the Holley's either. I run a stock one on my Challenger and the car has yet to burst into flames.
