I read their add but can't tell whether the gold membership allows full search access to other schools than mine, or is limited to only my high school. Just about everyone I want to look up from back-in-the-day went to other high schools. I guess my question is whether the gold will give me the same access to another school and year as what I get for my high school. They've got a special on for 1/4 the normal price, and at $9.99 for a year I thought it might be a kick to search out old friends.

Mick,
I had gold many years ago, but cant recall what it offered. I had a lot of other schools around me as well and the Catholic girls school were where the babes went. I could search other high schools though, and I was surprised at how many people were on there. I havent been on in years, but its a pretty cool site. One think I dont like is there attempts to get you to sign up for more by sending emails like: " TWO NEW PEOPLE have left you a message". OK, I better send them my credit card for more money to find out who this is...lol |

You can search your high school and college. I found a lot of old friends there.

I never did the "Gold" thing on Classmates because I thought that it would automatically renew and charge the credit card. Let me know if that is wrong.

I was kind of afraid of that too and I can't remember exactly how it worked but I had no problem opting out of it when my year was up. I seem to recall receiving notification of some kind.

I spent 12 years trying to get away from those people. I can't, in good conscience, spend one dime trying to find them again, LOL!

Going gold on classmates enters you to auto renew by them. I took the same offer last year, $ 9.99 but I used a one time purchase visa. I was on the reunion committee for my high school and used it to contact classmates. There are many horror stories of people trying to cancel the auto renew. I use Facebook now, it's free and easy to use.

Facebook has more people from my HS than classmates does, and it's just as easy to ignore them on facebook as it is on classmates.

I had a gold membership for a year thought i was logging in to find nothing but 1 mesg and an invite to my 25th class reunion, then i find out when its time to renew that i was not even in the paid for part of the site, thought i was the most unpopular SOB that ever lived, I hated the site will never sign up for it again, All the e mails telling you have a friend looking for you yeah buy my product and then we wont let you know for a year how to find out who it was , in Classmates defence they did refund my fee for the year of non use of the paid site

I looked at it for a while, and I found nothing honestly.
I've reconnected with most of my old friends (up north) on Facebook. Much better than Classmates, IMHO. |

Facebook IMO. Search your friends names or do a search for the school you want. Many people set up groups for their school. Problem with Classmates is that if you are a gold member and the people you are looking for are not, they cannot see or read anything you want them to unless they spend the $$$ to become a gold member. I'm actually surprised it still exists.

I'm not signing up for the gold either.
Almost every day, I get a message, saying I have 4 members sign up on my name. No thank you. George
