74 was the only year firebird that had this two-tone red color interior.
Interesting info. "Two-tone red" sounds a little yucky...
I'd have probably restored it all one color, too

I think we're confusing '73 & '74 interiors here. There was no "Red" '73 interior option. Code #471 was officially called Burgundy, somewhat darker than the Red used for '74. The #471 interior shades were not all the same. Each different type of material had its' own Shade of Burgundy. So to restore one of these interiors to be all the same shade, would not be correct or original.

Eye of the beholder. I think that in a see of black or white/black interiors, the red looks awesome, even if it is 2-tone.

Yes, it does look good on a red car.

I think Pontiac was right in not making the dash bright red, just too bright.

I guess I should have said "sea", not "see". My grammar teacher would have slapped my hand.

Yes it dose!!!
Good too see your still checking in around here Jeff.
I have to say the Red interior in 74 really pops, compared to the Burgundy in 73.
If the dash was the same red as the 74 Red I think I would go blind!

Man, I love that Red on Red 74 SD car Jeff, I call it my RED car.

shouldn't the kick panels be the darker red also on a '74 (with the red interior)?

Ah, don't get me wrong.... I really like the red interior, and would always take the unusual interior colors over the usual stuff (part of the reason I own the cars I do...). I was just thinking it would work a little better all one color.

The pictured cars looks good, though.

Kick panels should be the bright red, not the darker red. Only things that were darker red were the dash and console(s).

Keith, I agree w/ you to some extent about how it would look if it were all one color. No offense here whatsoever.

I've been looking at that one--note that it has the perforated headliner and an 07c build--I thought that was one-piece territory timewise. if that's correct then I'd feel a lot better putting that style in mine (07A)--i like it better anyway.

The eBay '73 SD-455 does have a one-piece headliner. The material is perforated with a foam backing and glued to a formed masonite board. I believe the changeover from the bow-type headliner to the one-piece was around January of '73.

Pics of the cowl tag show it fastened with screws, mine were riveted, but mine is an early Jan car,did they change this during the year?

That's a lot o money for a car with some issues...IMHO...
