Default 1969 Judge Stripe Question

What would be the correct stripes for a 1969 Judge with a build date 03C. The car is Carousel Red with black interior. Will it have the black or blue to be correct? Thanks in advance!

Forgot to ask who makes the best repro stripes. Red/yellow/black or Red/yellow/blue to be more specific on the Judge stripe question Thanks.

My CR Judge was built 04B and had Yellow/Red/BLACK. I bought a stripe kit from Year One and I wouldn't put them on a dumpster. The registration between the colors was TERRIBLE. But being a quality control person for a printing company, I guess my standards are higher than most, but you can't have 1/16" yellow hanging off one side of the stripe and 3/16" on the other. I called Phoenix Graphix and a new set is on the way. Hopefully they will be better than the sh1t Year One sells. If anyone is looking for a set of YRB '69 stripes cheap, give me a shout because these are going in the trash.

I did alot of research on the stripe color and I came to the conclusion that nobody really knows for sure. I would put the color of the stripe that you like on your car. You will always find somebody that will tell you it's incorrect whatever color you select. Just for the record my car is an early April car built in Baltimore and I went with the blue stripe.

I have a picture of the quarter panel of my January Baltimore Judge from approximately the summer of 1971 that the original owner sent me. It had DARK blue stripes.

One of the national judges told me in an e-mail that I have that the black stripes were not available until mid-April. He seemed pretty sure of it. And the factories probably used up the blue before going to the black so who knows exactly when the switch was made at each factory. I would tend to use black for a May car and blue for April if I did not want to be questioned.

This has been somewhat confusing because there are some stripes that are a medium--much lighter blue. I have seen one person say that these medium blue stripes were on his car originally. But I know that mine came with the very dark blue stripes. It is just my belief that these lighter blue stripes were not installed by the factory.

His info could be wrong.

So, if you have the stripe in strong light and hold something black next to it, the stripe is black--not dark blue--right? If so, then one of the chief national judges must be mistaken.

He had never seen the early ram air cable connector on my car previously. The internet is allowing all kinds of info to come out. We need a good way to capture it in one place.

mine could be dark blue, I would have to look at it a bit more closely, its the original stripe, and its faded, so its somewhat difficult to determine

Thanks, picture makes it look nicer than what it is, mostly original paint, it was Bruce Bethel's ( Bethel's Goat Farm) so I talk to him every so often, he knows the majority of the history of the car prior to the 90's, I have had the car for 12 yrs now

Agreed. My new stripes from Phoenix Graphix came and they are perfect. Night and day difference from Dale's Cuda Shop, I mean Year One.

Lots of guys think they have the black stripe when they actually have blue. the blue can be very dark and seems to darken with age.

1) locate a section of stripe on the inside of the door or door jam
2) grab a length of black electrical tape. fold it over on itself so it can't stick to anything
3) lay the tape over the stripe
4) shine a bright light at the stripe
5) compare intersection of electrical tape and center of stripe

you guys with original stripes and build dates prior to april will find you have blue when you thought you had black.

mine's a match to yours, 03C CR/black interior from Framingham and my stripes were black...... that is up until I tried bermuda's electrical tape test and I'll be damned if they don't look dark blue compared to the tape!

So basically the new blue stripes I've seen on some Judges at shows recently are more or a royal blue than a dark blue in my estimation. Are these Phoenix graphics stripes that have been mentioned below on the dark side or on the royal blue side?
