Hi guys,I just received my phs papers, and there is not any history on the car. Does anyone know where I can get history of my car? Who owned it before, what work they did to it, etc..? You know like,,,,HISTORY. Thanks again guys, you are all so knowledgable, and fun at the same time,Tim.

Tim, You will need to do that research yourself. On your cars title there will be a section that has the previous title number. You can go to your DMV and research these numbers back through the owners. Some states are more cooperative than others. If the car was moved from a different state you will need to get in touch with that states DMV to get the information. Good luck and be patient. Jeff

PHS-NO HISTORY means that there is NO phs on the car. I had a 65 gto that came back the same way. I know it was a gto because it was a 5N car,but no PHS to prove it. I am guessing that your 66-67 is a 242 car,so you at least have that, but no way to know what options it came with from the factory.

Tim - can you clarify?
By "no history", do you mean PHS did not have any record of build information (as Greg has suggested)? Or do you mean they didn't have previous owner and modifications (which we would not expect them to have)? K

Actually I would like to know both ans. I know that finding out who owned it and what was done to it, is going to be hard to find out. I guess that I'm just wishful thinking. The car is a 66 lemans, with a 400ci motor,I know that the motor did not come with the car ,oh well thanks for your help guys I appreciate it,Tim.

Did you actually expect the PHS would provide who owned the car and what they had done to the car?
In addition, I have never heard of PHS not being able to provide build data etc. I don't beleive that to be true IMO... |

I have talked to a couple of people who ran into the same thing that I did on a 65 that I had. Just like Keith said, missing,or in my case, they found the cars billing card, but it was BLANK. Phs did not charge me for that.

Tim, what plant was your car built? I recall that possibly during that period the Kansas City plant had a fire that destroyed some records. I may be wrong? but...if you post a list or possibly a photo of your build plate(on firewall) there are many members here that
have a vast ammount of knowledge of such......and are more than willing to help. Good luck.

I know for sure that there are missing records.I asked for the info on a 65 long ago,and Jim said it was not in his files, and refunded my money. Larry B.

If I remember correctly when PHS first started they could only guarantee records for cars 1968 and newer. And it was a free service then!!! this was in 1988 or 9.. My buddy sent in for his 66 GTO and they had no info but sent him a slew of factory info and photos along with marketing material. I decided to send in for my 67' ragtop figuring I had nothing to lose. At the very least I'll get promotion photos, info etc... to my surprise I got all the info on my car and at the time I was a little disappointed that I didnt get the promotional pics and documents my buddy got!!!

I wrote up a little "Pre-history" of PHS, if anyone cares, which I believe is self explanatory. This was first captured in an email to author/illustrator Eric White (gtoric on this site).
I haven't reviewed this Jim Mattison or PHS; Jim - if you happen to see this feel free to make any corrections or clarifications. Quote:
