Uncle Ned had good taste in oval track race cars. Thanks Bill for sharing those oval track pics. Many today forget that Pontiacs were huge back in those days in oval racing and much of their following and reputation was gained by those that liked to drive their Pontiacs in circles.
When I was 14 I remember going to Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix with my uncle in 1967, and the late models ran 3 heats and a feature. Out of those 4 races 3 were won by GTOs, a 65, a 66, and a 67.

Just picked this mag up for an OHC artical and this Royal Mystery Firebird artical was a BONUS!
I didn't check all the way back, but don't think Ive seen this one before.

Since I started my '63 Catalina project Steve Barcak pulled a couple of old pics from yesteryear. It is pics of the only Altered Wheel Base '63 Cat that I would think is out there. The first is the car looking lke it's ready for competition. The second is the same car but looking like it was stripped and put out to pasture.
  It makes for an interesting contrast. Again thank you Steve for the pictures. Mark L |

Here's some pix of Herb Adams' Silverbird at the 24 hrs of Watkins Glen in '79.Thats Herb in the blue shirt. Didn't run long,the engine let loose. But it was cool to see it run aginst the Porches,Vettes,ect.

Herb Adams delighted in taking on factory teams with his underfunded cars and sometimes beating them. His vision and hard work and fabrication abilities leveled the field pretty well.
