Stencils and Stripes is refunding my money for the "partial" stripe kit they sold me 9 months ago. It is unlikely that they will ever get the hood stripe since they cant get their manufacturer for the stripes to make them any more. So if anyone was considering using their kit, they may want to rethink it.

One of the members here indicated he has a hood section stripe with "Scotchcal Marking Film 3M" backing paper that he got from Year One in 2006 and it is 16-1/2 inches wide. Neither of us know if that means it is a correct original, or a correct repro or an early incorrect Phoenix version? Any input would be appreciated.

Has anyone ordered a recent kit from Phoenix Graphics lately? Have they improved since Norwood's bad experience from several years ago?

I just bought one from Classic Ind.My car is white also.I haven't installed them yet.I could email you pictures or take measurements for you if you would like??BTW,i took my 72TA rear out the other day and it has the same orange E, on the top though!Just thought I would share that

I believe the "E" is for Eaton brand carrier.

Received the uber-detailed hood latch mechanism from Norwood who shamed me into getting one for the never-ending project. Installed it just in time for my hood to arrive.

Here is the installed hood latch looking all pretty and original.

You might notice the rubber vacuum line wrapped on the hood spring. It helps to prevent the huge gouges that the hood spring makes in the paint on the underside of the hood. Looks kind of cheesy but until someone comes up with a better idea, this seems to be the prevailing idea.

Had to get the trailer out of the bushes this morning. The thing hasn't gone for a ride in about 2 years. Greased the wheel bearings and checked the tires. Of course I had another blowout on the way back from PA, today. I think I'll stick with the Goodyear Marathons. I seem to have better luck with them. One of the 4 year old Carlisles let go. Time to buy 3 more tires to match the one remaining Goodyear Marathon I bought in 2008. I lose more trailer tires to sun damage and age than tread wear. I don't think I have ever actually worn out a tire in 30 years of trailering. The sun is the worst thing for tires. That ozone just cooks them.

Anyway, here is the car after trailering it all the way to the bodyshop in PA and then back. Had to drop the shaker off for a touch up and still waiting on the last body panel: the polyethylene valance.







And I'm waiting on the Phoenix Graphixs hood stripe decal to see how that compares with the Stencils and Stripes decals on the rest of the car. It's supposed to get here on Tuesday. Check here for the the whole story of ten months of waiting on the S&S hood decal:

OK maybe I'll stay away from the Goodyear Marathons after reading all the bad reviews that mirror my experiences over the years. Anybody recomment a 225/75R15 trailer tire that doesn't explode like it has a two year timed fuse in it?

That latch is too perfect, I'd be afraid to close the hood on it...Great job!

Hope no one deducts you points at shows for that tube not being factory original...Now that would be funny....

Instead of the tubing you can use a rubber sleeve from large thin walled hose. Make it flat and you can slide it on or off as you open and close the hood.
Also check you latch alignment so the hood doesn't rub on either side of the latch.

Maybe the same rubber tubing they use for the bumper jack sleeve that holds the tire iron would work?

I have seen several guys use large heat shrink tubing on that spring. Slide it on and shrink it over it. Slides off and on as you need it.

Finally got back in town and installed the Phoenix Graphix hood stripe. The stripe seems to be the right color and dimension and matches the Stencils&Stripes brand roof and trunk decals. The quality control of the trimming of the clear outer area leaves a lot to be desired, though. It ranges from 3/8 inch in the corners to 1 mm along the sides. Not very good trimming done by the manufacturer, at all. (Still better than the non-existent, 1-year back-ordered, hood stripe that never arrived from the other stripe maker.)

It will take a few days for the remaining bubbles to evaporate and then it should look pretty good. It was a bear getting that cut out to properly match the shaker hole. Took about 2 hours with a lot of application gel.

On an ironic note, with these flaws it is probably as close as you can get to the factory poor build quality of the original stripes!

Will thats not factory is it ? They where always close but never dead nuts with the decals.
Looks mint and looking forward in seeing it done, however I'm not looking forward in this thread ending.

Your work is at a very high level and has brought this car to become a piece of art.

Quite right, Brewster. The factory decals were mass produced and thrown on the cars in a matter of minutes as they rolled down the assembly line. So even with the trimming flaws, it's still probably 100% better than a factory installed job.

Absolutely gorgeous!!! Reliable Pontiac is just 15 minutes from me! Use to buy a lot of parts from them in the 80's.

Got the shaker back yesterday. The painter had to reshoot it after the metallic looked a little weird on one edge. I applied the decals and set her back on top of the air cleaner once again. Everything actually works!
