On my 69 Goat, the drivers side inner guard/fender has a molded bump right in the middle at the top near to where it attaches to the fender. It's around 3" long and 1/2" deep.
Why is it there? With my drop spindles now fitted my tire scrubs on this area. I can't see any point in it, so will be removing it, but I am curious.

My 68 has these bumps on both sides. I don't know what they are there for but eventually I plan to reverse them.

Is it possible to remove the inner guard/fender without taking the fender off??

Pretty much just as simple as that. Might take a little wrestling. Typically the inner fenders are the last thing to go on after paint.

getting inner fenders out isnt that easy.
most bolts are a non-issue save for the ones on the rear lower fenders. if you strip the u-nuts and they free spin, youre in for some fun, as you have to get the forward one loose enough to get the tab on the inner fender out from being sandwiched between the outer fender and body. then extracting takes a litte creative maneuvering, popping up and off the fender lip, pulling in, rotating down, back and forth, pushing and pulling, you'll get the idea when you try it. wheel needs to be off and car jacked up. and obviously anything bolted/screwed to them needs to come off. i wouldnt even think about painting them and putting back on, your going to scratch the bejesus of it doing so.
