It's apparrent that people need to brush up on the definition of"under-rated".
un·der·rate /ˌʌndərˈreɪt/ Show Spelled [uhn-der-reyt] Show IPA –verb (used with object), -rat·ed, -rat·ing. to rate or evaluate too low; underestimate. Origin: 1615–25; under- + rate1 Dictionary.com Unabridged Warren Haynes,Ritchie Blackmore & John Entwhistle do NOT fall in this catagory. Last edited by Cobrabill; 10-22-2010 at 12:01 AM. |

I say these are under rated because they just aren't mentioned enough any more and they were the best in different ways:
Lowell George Peter Greene (back then) Mick Taylor Albert King Freddie King honorable mentions guitarists of sorts: Moonie (!) yes Ralph David Lindley John Cippolina Robert Fripp and while he is recognized, Frank Zappa was really one of the best guitarists ever, and in that sense he is under rated... and Jorma Koukenan probably spelled that wrong, OK just Jorma! and for bass players who played bass like a guitar: Berry Oakley Jack Cassidy

I always liked Vito Bratta from White Lion, similar in style to Eddie Van Halen, even though i didn't really care for there whiney lead singer,I liked the music behind him, there cover of "Radar Love" kicks Golden Earring's versions A** !!! Vito's solo in that song is awesome!

I still think he's underrated. You talk Allman Bros. and it's all Duane, Duane and more Duane. Dickey never got his props in my opinion and I really think that the fact he was paired with Duane Allman is the ONLY reason he's seldom mentioned when people start talking great guitar players.

You're forgetting that Duane's contributions ended in 71 and after that it was all Dickey up untill the re-union when he brought Warren Haynes with him.Not to mention all the work with "Great Southern". Tom's claim to fame is his M.I.T. degree and his inventions such as "Rockman".Proof of this,is that he has done nothing W/O Boston. |

In fact, it's probably almost sacrilegious to say among southern rock fans, but I always liked Dickey's playing better than Duane's. Better writer, clean, razor sharp playing. Of course, it's just my opinion that he's underrated. Could be that lots more people than I realize actually do appreciate him just as much. I just never hear him mentioned when people talk great guitar players.

No matter how you look at it, they have differnt styles and differnt tones. Both great players. BUt, listen to Layla by Clapton( Derek and the Dominos )... i cant imagine Dicky trying to play the slide on the end of that song.... it was Duane.... Tom is a brilliant player with awesome imagination when it comes to production. Boston's sound came and went... no mistaking his sound. First 2 albums were awesome, and i learned alot about guitar harmonies and melody listening to his solos. Brad ( the other guitar player) was a badass too...
