Well Definatly Not Philly, The Colors are wrong. These are some 60's Pontiac's with Philly Street Cars.

I think I have a Match Pittsburgh, and the 1st picture seems to show they operated into the 70's at least, not 1963 like the other site stated.

Blasphemy! They are fine dining establishments. A lot of folks go there on Valentines Day, that is if you can get a reservation. They started doing that years ago on a joke I think and it was a hit so they kept it.

I'm guessing that this picture was taken close to Santa Monica Beach. The year was 1944, and the car is a '41 Ford convertible. In the picture is my Dad, his Mom, myself and my sister. Later that car had an engine fire while we were driving. My Dad let the family out of the car and he drove it to the fire station. I don't know the total damage, but I do know that when my Dad filed a claim Farmers said they covered fires, but not engine fires. No one in the family ever used Farmers insurance again.

Here is a photo of my older brother next to my father's Pontiac. It was the year I was born so I don't have any recollection of this but my dad says it was a two-toned green '53.

I don't know John. Looks to me that your dad might have had the eight. According to Gunnell's Pontiac book all '38 sixes had the 'Pontiac' script on the hood sides by the headlamps.

I was going by the hood ornament, which your pics also show the ornament as being low for the '6'.

Pic too dark to see if it has the Pontiac script though.

I don't know where I got the idea from but I seem to recall seeing a late 30's-early 40's Pontiac that had some "skinny" front bumper guards that had their tops in the shape of a Pontiac Indian head. I thought it was on a 40 (41?) 4dr sedan car I had seen in a junk yard but when I went to that yard a few years later that car didn't have the "Indian head" guards.
That car also had an array of "silver gills" along the sides of the hood (which opened by lifting the hood ornament).

I may have seen an "Indian head guard" car at a POCI convention or at Norwalk (or I may have imagined it all).

Does anyone know if such an Indian head guard/trim was ever used?

Hood ornament is different between sixes and eights, on the side panels the sixes have a shorter grille with Pontiac script near the headlamp, the eight's side grills continue where the script is on the sixes. On the bottom of the silver streak about even with the bumper blade the script across the silver streak says eight.

Also below the script on the lower part of the silver streak ( down by the front bumper ) The chrome grille continues down where the six at that juncture the last lower part of the grille is painted.

Here are a couple snaps of my L79 Chevelle when it was about a year old.





Did that trailer hitch and door edge guards! Two items that failed to make it back on the car when I restored it..... I DO have an NOS set of door edge guards still in the package and a very nice complete trailer hitch kit along with a very nice used hazard flasher kit. All three were dealer installed options which I keep with the car, just not ON the car.

Nice! My dad had a 65 Chevelle SS new. Then he sold it to buy a '63 Corvette.

Have a soft spot for Chevelles. Had a 66 Chevelle as a kid. Would love to get another.

There is probably a lot of useful information to be gleaned from close up examination of high resolution old photos like that. Unlike a lot of factory literature, those parking lots show how the cars were actually delivered to the street.

This photo was taken by an older woman from Ohio at her first Nascar race. She snapped it with a cheapo camera thru the chainlink fence during a red flag stop at lap 175 at Daytona-2001. The lady was kind enough to make a few copies, one of which she gave to me. (I took a picture of it to post here, has slight distortions.)
