Here is my first nice GTO. Bought it summer 1977 , right before my senior year in high school, with an insurance settlement when someone totaled my 65 GTO conv. Got it from the original owner, a gal, who special ordered it in Georgia for around $2,OOO. Cardinal Red, black int 455HO WW5, M 22 side stripes, a/c, am fm st. Got it with 6O,OOO and sold it just after it flipped the odometer over when I was 21. In the 3 to 4 years I owned it, rebuilt the 455HO, swapped in an 4OOthm and drove it everywhere. When I sold it, I reinstalled the M22 and repainted it as shown. Even in 1981, the side stripes were already discontinued from the dealer. This pic was taken in 1981 right about the time I sold it for about $4,OOO . I had the original window sticker she gave me, I was smart enough to save a copy when i sold it. Not sure where the car is now. it was in Tucson the last 25 plus years, may still be there.

Mike- some readers might not realize what they're seeing in that "average dragster cost" photo- Mickey Thompson's hemi-Pontiac Top Eliminator at the '62 NHRA Nationals, after beating Garlits in the final.

Can't let this thread get too far away.
All that talk about the "new" Daytona/Superbird in Mike Nouns thread reminded me of this piccie. Look at the paint!! Are these new? It looks like they've been sitting for years. The second car carrier shot ties in with Pontiacs, PYer Keith Seymore and his old Uncle (IIRC) Joe. The truck in the 1968 ad is owned by FJ Boutell, a company that Keith's Uncle helped start up and drive for, and, a useless bit of trivia, is that the 70 Judge TV ad (where the drivers unload the Judge to take for a private test drive) features a FJ Boutell car carrier as well. |

Mike, where did you find the picture of that Daytona? I know that car, it's the only one built in that color combination.

Some of my pictures of the same Daytona. Note the door looking darker in both of our pictures.
It was the only Coral Reef car with a white interior and white stripe. There were some with black stripes, but only one in white. In fact, there was a licensed diecast of that car made several years back. I know the owner that had it for many years, up until last year. He traded it to Legendary, who has since sold it. Love those old hippies and choppers photos - cool stuff.
As for the Vegas - I had a buddy in high school/college that had a grey hatch back. We drove the car back and forth between Chattanooga and Knoxville during college - had a blast in it. By the time he graduated college, it was done. I think he just left it parked in the apartment complex parking lot when he left Knoxville the last time...didn't think it would make it home and wasn't worth hauling or the cost of an ad to sell it. Yes...dirt bag.
My friend had a '73 Road Runner in high school...not much, 318. We came across a Vega on night with a 350 small block in it and got smoked.

What is it you don't like about Harleys and the folks who ride them? I rode one for years and have a lot of friends who still do and I wouldn't consider any of them to be dirt bags - in fact, pretty much any one of them would give you the shirt off his back. Not much difference between them and car guys - we're all gear heads.

I am a big fan of the original Baldwin/Motion cars. Here are a couple colored pictures of a Baldwin/Motion Vega.

When we watch that chase scene, we always count the hubcaps coming off the Charger.

Found these looking for something else:
My mother, probably in the early 1950's - ![]() Mom is now in her mid 70's, still living in the house I grew up in. My father, mid 1950's - ![]() Dad passed away in 2005. I know I have some more pics of him looking cool while driving some of his big bad machines back then. I'll have to get them scanned and post 'em up. K
