This vintage photo makes you wonder how they actually DID wash cars back then. I thought this was one of the most bizarre photos I've ever seen. Bet they got a lot of stalled cars in this tub, considering the automotive electrical systems back then were quite exposed.

That's a good way to tighten up the artillery (wooden) wheels.

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=428585 I showed my Dad the shot of the GP car going down the highway and he recalled watching the GP cars out here for the Albert Park GP in the mid 50's driving on the street from a workshop in Carrum (which was way out in the sticks back then) to the track at Albert Park (an inner suburb of Melbourne). He saw Moss, Fangio etc. driving their GP cars on the street...that's pretty cool and I might not ever have heard it if it wasn't for this thread! |

This picture isn't real old, taken in '03 but Smokey's place is gone now. I had just finished the restoration on my GTO and couldn't resist taking a picture under the old sign out front of his place.

The guy on the left(bald guy) was a customer of mine when I worked at Big-O tires in Reno during the mid 90's. He's the one that built the spaceship..... I always thought he was BSing me until I saw this pic.

...my first MOPAR...new 1973 CUDA, 340 AT...a true Christine
...arrived at the dealership, the roof was damaged in transit/fixed ...rear ended the same day my wife picked it up at the dealership(a few hours after the pix was taken)...it was repaired again...in the body shop for repairs 2 times before it had 80 miles on it ...we moved to San Antonio and it never ran right at all (long stories) and it was hit in a parking lot, minor damage/repaired ...moved back to Indiana...tree fell across the roof in an ice storm/repaired and whole car repainted...sold it ...next owner...car was side swiped the first night he owned it sitting in front of his house ...a few days later it was hit hard head on by his ex-wife on purpose ...a few weeks later it was put thru a barbed wire fence backwards...all was repaired again ...a couple months later the car was drowned in about 12 feet of water, passengers had to swim out of the car...repaired again, car was filled with mud and sewage and started to rust immediately...he sold it ...a few years later I saw the car for the last time, it was being driven by a kid, it was rusty all the way up past the side marker lights and the interior was rotten, it stunk... all this before the car was 4 years old...................it surely did die a horribly rusty death, I HOPE SO !!! |

'61 Corvette, my first classic car...purchased in 1975....it didn't have an engine...had a 350 built for it and it always overheated and had clutch problems...sold it and made $1,000. on it...now I had the bug...bought the most beautifully restored correct 62 Vette I have ever seen for $4800.
...the Vette was wrecked in California (around 1977) by the guy I sold it to, it was torn in half on a highway after hitting a guard rail broadside and the driver was relatively unscathed |
