I always like the 6 wheeled Tyrrell P34. My older brother built a model of that car. They raced it for two seasons if I recall correctly. The car had awesom grip but they had a problem with tire life. Those little front tires were really turning some rpms.

I will keep this short. Oct 17th 1969 Dad bought mom a 69 GTO convertible, Vedoro Green, Auto A/C hidden headlight. Mom hated Vedoro Green and in the Summer of 77 had it repainted, pinstriped, custom orange top and named her Orange Crate.
We had only 1 or 2 pictures of completed car.
Today the man repsponsible for the orange top is working part time for my dad and brought in his photo album. Here are his pictures that he let me borrow to scan.
I hate vista. When my other computor is fixed I will rescan and hopefully be able to resize them.
Her car is now Liberty Blue and can be seen on the ultimate GTO site tab 40 iirc for 69 Verts.

After the 12 second '71 GTO in '83, of course, I wanted something quicker yet. Bought this abandoned 72 GTO for $100 in 1984.




Got a bonded title for it, a little spraying of the paint gun, a few parts here and there and walla! turned it into this by 1985....



Ran pretty decent too. Just like the last one, it was my primary driver to work and back about 80 miles a day minimum. Here it is surprising many at the new Firebird Drag strip in '85 and also stomped many others on the street too. My first car in the 11's. I remember how so many guys could not believe it ran well into the 11's and still look so close to stock. You would look inside the car and saw stock console and shifter, stock tach and gauges, buckets, Formula wheel. Firebird made me install the roll bar once I cracked 11s. otherwise int was stock appearing as was the outside. Factory color Lucerne blue. I would open the hood and there was not much to see ther either. Stock ram air air cleaner, q jet, stock chrome valve covers, etc. All you saw was headers. Few knew about the 67O heads. It was really a sleeper for 1984. Looked like it may run 13s. ha ha. After building and enjoying this car, I decided, in my mid 2Os, I preferred a clean, more subtle looking car over one with stripes, spoilers and wings, and have gone that way since..
Always liked the 8" alum snowflake wheels and have used them on most of my cars from 1981 through today. Like them polished too.



This is when I started getting much more in depth with engine building. Up to this time in my life, I was a nuts and bolts type of car guy but, wanted more and still do. Starting to learn to assemble my own heads, cc ing chambers, Had HO help me pick out my first roller cam and related parts, bought micrometers to more accurately check clearances, valve spring tester, ring filing tool, dial bore gauge, etc. With these tools, I built a set of open chamber 67O heads to give around 1O to 1, highly modified a Torker as guided by HO racing.
Later used those heads on my first Pontiac powered boat but, that was already into the early 9Os and outside that is outside the perimeters of this thread.

That's a neat tribute car. I have a Lemans 4dr here at my yard that I have thought about doing the same thing except I want mine to look more what the car looked like at the end of the movie. The one I have already has the right quarter smashed. Want to cut the roof off and have the right rear door hanging bya cable, etc. It is just a matter or priorities. maybe in the next few years. Should not take much to do because, it will not be pretty.

Cobrabill- great stuff! I'd never heard about the Pontiac-powered Harmon-Collins dragster. What was the origin of all those images- timeslips, clipping, etc.? Can anybody elaborate on Harmon-Collins? Personally, I've only seen some flathead speed parts they made (like front-mount magnetos that the unblown engines in Challenger-1 used), and some unusual bronze-bushed roller lifter setups for OHV engines (like I initially tried to use in my hemi). One of the owners (I think Mr. Collins) was still kickin' not too many years ago, as Fritz Voight had mentioned talking with him. I think the company died around 1963, as that's when their products started to be advertised as Schiefer brand. Anybody?

Great thread, Steve B! Somewhere I've got a 1961 snapshot of the engine compartment of my '60 Falcon- stuffed full of Pontiac V8. I'll try to find and post it.

These are the guys.JD Braswell is the father of Dave Braswell(Braswell Carbs).They ran a 30% Nitro mix in that thing.
