Gay Skating Rink Operator Gets Life in Prison for Homosexual Crimes
Former skating rink operator David Abston was sentenced Monday to life in prison, an outcome that will "take a sexual predator off the streets of Tulsa forever," District Attorney Tim Harris said. Abston pleaded no contest to two counts of sexually abusing one child, with 26 other felony counts dismissed in accordance with a plea agreement. Tulsa County prosecutors had charged Abston in May with 22 counts of sexually abusing a child, one count of forcible sodomy and five counts of possessing child pornography. In all, Abston was charged with sex offenses involving 19 boys. Abston was accused of abusing boys ages 8 to 14 over more than seven years in his Tulsa home. United States Attorney David E. O’Meilia
Northern District of Oklahoma FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2007 CONTACT: RANDAL EDGMON PHONE: (918) 382-2730 FAX: (918) 560-7954 TULSA AREA BUSINESSMAN GUILTY OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES TULSA, Okla. - A Tulsa man, who previously owned a roller skating rink in Broken Arrow, Okla., pled guilty today to charges that he possessed and distributed child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney David E. O’Meilia of the Northern District of Oklahoma. David A. Abston, 55, pleaded guilty to the Internet distribution of numerous images and video files of child pornography and to the possession of over 200 video files of child pornography found on his home computer. Specifically, Abston pleaded guilty to distribution and possession of child pornography. Distribution of child pornography carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and a fine of not more than $250,000. Possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of not more than $250,000. Abston will also surrender and forfeit his home computer and his home in Tulsa. Abston, who has been in custody since his arrest on Nov. 17, 2006, remains detained without bond following his plea of guilty. Sentencing is scheduled to be conducted before U.S. District Judge James H. Payne on June 27, 2007 after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Susan Morgan and Catherine Depew represented the government in the matter. The charges were the result of an investigation by the FBI’s Innocent Images Task Force which, in this case, included officers from the Broken Arrow Police Department, Bixby Police Department and the Tulsa Police Department. This case was brought as part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative and our continuing efforts to target individuals who possess and distribute child pornography. In February 2006, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices nationwide, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. The Devils got a special place in hell for a guy like that. Quite honestly I dont know how or why he is still breathing, unless he is in Protective custody or a jail that just houses sex offenders cause other inmates dont take to kindly to child molesters. At least around here they dont.

You saw the car 25 years ago I saw it 2 years ago. The car has not been driven in 25 years. So what motor is in the car? Where did he get all the original ra4 parts to put it together? Every nut and bolt on that motor is correct and looks untouched. Ive seen a lot of guys do survivor cars and for someone to do this in the mid 80's? If it was done then the person is a master at his craft.

Just not sure how to categorized guys who do survivor restorations??
Isn't doing survivor cars like good forgery? What is the point to recreating grease, rust, patina except to deceive the experts...

I dont see anything wrong with fluffing a car or making it a better survivor however if you go to sell it you need to disclose it otherwise you are trying to defraud someone. If I had the paint on my survivor car touched up or a panel redone then I'm not going to claim that its all original paint.

I was just wondering as I saw a vette at the Mcacn covered in dust with instructions "not to clean real barn dust". Didn't look like original barn dust...

Personally I like the "just pulled from my Grandfather's garage" look - like the way Don restored (detailed) your 69.

as for where did he get all the parts, i didnt ask, but back then parts were readily available compared to today and it was surprising what was still available from the dealer if you had the correct part #'s. |

We had the car in our family dealership back around 82 ish in our paint shop; Dave was trying to get the front end rubber pieces painted, they were discolored yellow. I went over the car with a fine tooth comb; but was only 20 ish and didn't know as much as I would today. I drove the car and it was extremely nice; but Dave is a compulsive liar, and I hope he never gets his flea ridden perverted *** out of jail.
Something never added up on the story Dave was giving even back at that point; I could smell a rat. Approximately 10 years later he was buying cars up here in Tulsa at the dealership I work at; and he started to tell the story of the 69 TA to a salesman, as I overheard the story some key points had changed in 10 years and I was like WTH. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to me; but I was shocked to now hear the blatant proof of his compulsive lying. So the bottom line is; it’s a very nice car but God only knows what the truth is about it. It has been told that the engine was restamped; and that was probably passed along by the person that did it, no names will be mentioned on my part. |

And something else that just popped in my head. The first time I saw the car a key RA IV peice was missing; don't get me to lying because that was a long time ago, but I want to say it had a cheap chrome air cleaner assembly on it. The next time I saw it; he had the goods including the screen over the carb, at which time I do remember for sure asking him where he had gotten that. I remember clearly he said "you wouldn't believe the trouble I had to go through to get that part"; maybe one of the few lies he didn't tell. |

From what I know that is not being discussed publically and what I know from hands on; I would say there is a 95% or greater chance there is severe monkey business going on in the engine compartment. I know for fact of my own eye; that at minimum some minor painting was done, I do not remember if my dealership did this but I do know someone did because the paint matched later. Vague memory is suggesting to me that our painter declined to work on the car.

How do the numbers fall out? 54 built, approximately half are known to exist including 8 of the 9 automatics. So out of 27 (approx) cars, 19 4spds, maybe half of which are running/driving cars and maybe half again that are numbers matching? Does anybody (Matt?) know the actual numbers?
I don't think this car still sits at the top of what is a very small heap. JMHO

I'm curious; has anyone even run the numbers to know for a fact it's a IV car? Dave built this car back before Pontiac was officially releasing invoices; and while I know Dave had the conections to get parts, I do not know if he was connected enough to get an invoice. |
