Guys; I just dug out this 859 intake thats been hiding over 40 years. It apears that someone has filled the coolant crossover with alluminum , even the timing cover bypass hole has a pipe plug. Is this a common mod that racers did back then or did the factory pieces ever come this way? Looks like a very nice manifold otherwise. Thanx for any input.

An 859 intake just sold on e-bay for $1625.00 last night. Currently a 991 priced at $2995.00 on e-bay. I've seen both versions on e-bay before but never meet reserve. What are they really worth?

An 859 sold on Ebay in Sept. of '09 for $2700. Then another one in Jan. of '10 for $2100.
Both of those prices were crazy in my opinion. $1200 was probably the going price before those two. $1625 may be the right price now?

I have bought probably 12-15 99/991s over the past six or seven years and the average I've paid is probably $400. $2900 is WAY WAY out of line.

NEVER seen a SD intake with the X over filled!Frigin never!I bought a cut screwed with 859 at Norwalk last aug for like$250,its on my 63 now.Tom

I should make it clear . The crossover isnt filled , Just blocked at the gasket surface with what apears to be very thin alluminum. Like one woulld block heat riser. I just dont understand why. Nothing that couldnt easily be milled out, THANX.

99/991 (same intake but one has an extra digit in the casting #) is a '61/'62 intake. 859 is a '63 higher rise version with no heat crossover provision and far fewer were made.

There is also a 9770319 which looks like a 99/991 externally but very few were made.

61-63, thanks for the picture comparison...I see the 99x has heat (unlike the 0859) ...I assume it also has intake ports that aren't as tall as an 0859 (which I assume is meant for 980 heads).

859s were used with 127 heads also before the 980s were released. Tom S would be the expert on this area.

the 319 was actually used for 62s,it was like the 991 but with larger ports I guess a 62 1/2 intake.Early 63 cars had 127 heads but always had the 859 intake im told.Early 62 cars had 306 heads with the 991 intake and later got the 127s and I do believe the 991 intake.Tom

I have a 859 on a421 in a 63 tempest also a 859 on a 421 in a 61 tempest wagon. Paid $800.00 apiece. Those ebay prices ruin it for the average pontiac guy in my opinion.

Well I hauled this thing over to my veteran pontiac buddy to see what he thought. After closer look we thought it may be leaded, So scraping with a knife i discovered it was nothing but bondo painted silver,I thought this thing looked to fresh for its age. Screwed the pipe plug out of the bypass and Ihave a nice one now . Still dont know what the heck they were trying to put this on (maybe 345 IHC) I love bondo but i hope theres no more in this 859. THANX FOR THE IMFO.

I totally agree about the Ebay prices. I am in the process of building a 63 Tempest and want to go the 421 SD route, but it seems the lack of engine parts due to Ebay pricing or hoarding has limited my ability to complete this car.

I've seen plenty in the 300-500 price range over the years. The greedy people think they are gold. I even had one of the 13 Nascar single carb intakes and it went for 500 to someone that just had to have it.
