For anyone who had to replace the lower patch panel on a 72 GTO, how did you get around the extractor area? Since all 72 panels do not have provisions for the extrator.
Seems it would be very tough to not only cut out, but then to weld in the tabs that hold the extractor in. Did you you the whole panel or cut along the leading edge of the extractor and just patch in below that?

My rot just ended right below the extractor so we cut a tad below it and patched the panel on. Not bad quality from the Parts place!
1968 GTO-455, Muncie M-21, Limited Slip, Being Painted Turquoise Blue With White Royal Bobcat Stripes 1972 GTO-455, Ram Air IV Cam, 6X Heads, Headers, Performer Intake, Q-Jet, Th400, 3.55's. Cardinal Red 1966 LeMans-Aquiring soon. Want to add 389/3x2's, 4-speed, GTO hood, and Burgendy paint. Heart Of Illinois GTO's Member

That is where my rot is also. So you just cut down the patch panel then?

I just patched both my front fenders on a '72 that had '71 fenders on it.
I have extractors that I now need to install, does anyone have any measurements that could help me install the extractors in the right place. The Fisher Body book doesn't include any measurements for this and I haven't found anything online. Thanks! Dave |
