![]() With a few tweaks, Which the track itself mentioned, this could eventually and easily surpass their Buick event! Lets not let this event end up like Pontiac in The Parks did.

I hear you about making hot laps. I have only had the chance to go racing 5 times this year, 1 time in February, 1 time in March, 2 times in April and this event for July. I figured I had plenty of catching up to do! It is hard for me not to hit those staging lanes when the announcer is begging for racers to come up and make lap. When I went up to collect the payout they gave me a sheet of paper that said 2nd Pontiac Nationals will be held June 7,8 and 9 2012 at Beech Bend. It stated 3 days of racing, Car show and show and shine! Sounds like a great event for sure!!! N2 |

Question:
What would it take for a pay out to get a bunch of Pontiac racers to this event next year. Prize Money? A big item to give away for King Pontiac? Intake, carburetor, crankshaft, gift card for gas ect. a large trophy? Girls? What would draw a large crowed? This is the area that Pontiac are prevalent more so then the VMP race. It is placed right in center of Pontiac country.

Honestly Bob, Payouts for this weekend were pretty much in line with most weekly purses. Keeping the cost of entry down, paying back more spots, making it a 2 day money race event instead of 1 would attract more racers and I think it would grow rapidly from there. It never hurts to throw other teasers in the pot also if you feel it is neccessary! Extending the racing into Sunday also would help justify the expense of the trip for the ones who didn't come out.
It also would be neat to have a dedicated night race. If you were to do something like that, I'd like to see it on Friday night as a bonus race where everyone is welcome instead of a gamblers where alot of guys choose not to put the money up to participate. When the rain came Saturday, there was only 15 people entered, at Norwalk, less than half the racers get involved in the Friday gamblers which has always amazed me why more don't participate. Maybe do something like pay out a little cash for the top 2 spots or throw in different prizes for the other spots. Just an idea! But I agree, the location is ideal and shouldn't have any problems drawing more racers next year, and having it in early June helps with not having the extreme heat and humidity we had this past weekend. Now strippers would draw a larger crowd!

Excellent location and the track facility is great. It's only about 5 hours from us, where Norwalk is 12 plus. Good Lord willing, we'll be back next June!

Might want to do a new twist on brackets. Best time trial(qualify) equals fixed dial-in for eliminations vs dial your own each round.(Still handicapped like regular brackets) Add no breakout, no double breakout, no buy back, and things could get real interesting. Try to group early rounds for close ET match if you can. Harder to sandbag and less advantage for cars with electronics vs none. Add a .400 or .500 tree. Maybe 3 to 5 groups payed on ET "index". Could even add a "king of the hill" for the "index" winners. All still based on that qualifying ET vs dial your own. If payout is fair and "King of Hill" is a nice chunk of $$$ I think you could generate more interest than regular brackets. Throw in a few heads up classes (NA and Power Adder) and quick 8 or 16, plus vendors and car show should make for a fun event. Get the word out plenty early and reminders often and on places like class racer and YB. Not everyone hangs out on the Pontiac only sites. I can help on some of this if you want seeing I'm under 2 hrs from there. Someone suggested 3 days. It would seem a committed car count might be needed to pull that off. Or open up Sunday to include other brands for a Pontiac challenge of some sort. (could bring a crowd) |

I think "regular brackets" work just fine. Bracket racers love consistantcy.
Don't change a thing. JMO

i drove all night sunday, monday morning to get home and stopped off at a truck stop at 4:30 moday morning to get some sleep, at 6:30 monday morning we headded out again on i-380 to find this http://easterniowanewsnow.com/2011/0...tips-on-i-380/
4 semi trucks were on thier sides and new trailers form a trailer sales store were thrown about the highway. i am almost positive if i would have not pulled off the highway we would have been right in the thick of it. guess thats why i was not lucky at the track. (needed my luck for the road). - RB

Give it some more thought before just dismissing the idea. BTW I should have said .400 or.500 PRO tree. The elimination of double break out helps level things for the guys not used to a pro tree and cuts back on sandbagging. Buy backs dont help the guys with tight budgets. Fixed handicap based on qualifying time trial gives it a whole new approach. Still have to run your number! (Its not really a new idea I ran in a similar program in the 70's that was quite popular locally from the time it was adopted till the track was sold to a guy who turned it into a dirt track. Drag operation had failed due to 3 years in a row of bad weather and local ordinances that only allowed weekend racing. Not enough races over three years forced loss of revenue and bankruptcy. Wasnt lack of racers and fans.) |

Index racing sucks. Plenty of sandbagging there.
Racers with tight budgets usually aren't very fast, 13 sec & slower. Create a class for them, lower entry fee, small payout, footbrake only. Leave Super Pro & Pro classes alone. They work. Norwalk seems to have a plan. It's not the 70's anymore.

This is a POCI event race that we will be a sponsor of a class.
May be if they get good feedback they will have it there every year. There are enough Pontiac in the area to support this type of event. AllPontiac will be glad to offer prize money or material for this event. Keep the ideas coming, Dave Bennett will look them over and will work on making this a fun experience. Did anyone go to the amusement park on the roller coaster? This is right next door. I mean if you rode the ride you can see the starting line at the track.

Old Goat Racer
???? I've offered up two separate races. No one would force you to run the one you didnt want. I did mention 3 to 5 "breaks" in my first post. Can and likely would payout differently just like regular brackets. "King of Hill" could be just winners of each index (or bracket if you prefer the term) or winner and runner up competeing for an additional pay out. Many a fast car that doesnt get to the races regularly. Budget or other otherwise. Eliminating double break out prevents having to be able to run under your index or dial in. Qualifing for your handicap vs dialing your own et each round, stops the staging line games played with that. Not being able to do double breakout stops the games with that. If the weather changes both competitors have same advantages/disadvantages. With no double breakout you both lose if you both break out. (It adds a different level of fate and final outcomes. Most of what I meant by makes things interesting.) One of you will still win if the weather slows you from your qualifying handicap. BTW just because an idea is old, it doent mean its a bad idea. If you've never tried something before does that make it a bad thing?? Not everyone likes to do the same old thing everytime. Last edited by BruceWilkie; 07-12-2011 at 02:05 PM. |

There was one race class for pure stock. I'd like to see a street legal class added, as thats basically how I've set up my car. DOT legal tires, mufflers, stock type hood, street licensed and insured [not dealer plates]. Payouts could be all or partially based on entries. More classes can bring more cars, you can always combine classes based on the entries to keep them competitive. Don't need as big a payout like the pro type classes.

Agree with Hammertime, keep it simple for street/semi-mod classes. Like 13.0 sec and up.
Most go'n to these type events dont race every wkend if at all. If complicated, they dont want to look dumb ask'n questions. Think be more tempted to run thier factory cars for fun.
