If you are going to buy a Big wagon get the Bonneville. The extra chrome inside and out makes the car. I have had several 65-66 Bonneville wagons and would love to find one that nice. Parts for the body are usually specific to the wagon and NO ONE makes interior parts for them. That car looks good and complete and well taken care of. Beware of rust issues around the fixed rear side windows and the interior panels under them. That area usually rusts first. buy it and enjoy.

Just remember that any wagon specific parts will be harder to find, so basically everything from the doors back. Trim isn't as critical, but also tough to find.

If the spare tire area is solid like they said, that is a good sign as when the fixed windows started leaking it ran in there and usually rotted it away. Look up under the rockers also as you won't see rust bubbling through behind the big wide trim.

I just spoke to the seller and he said the following:

Engine runs perfect
Rear brakes were stuck but he got them unstuck; may stick again
All fluids clean and full
Rear windows ARE leaking but Speare Tire area is flawless....no rust
Driver floor will need to be redone/replaced
Rear quarters need work as do the pillars at the back

The car came to Canada in December of 1980 and all the documentation from the transfer etc and all the bills from servicing since then are with the car, including the $2400 bill for when the engine was redone in 1987; balanced, blue printed, machined amd some head work. The car was not winter driven since brought over and was last painted in 1981.

My brother and I are on our way to see it tomorrow shortly after noon. It might be more work then I am capable of or have the means to do but I really do want a wagon and this one has me "smitten" so far.

not to distract from this thread, but you guys have me curious what you might consider paying for this 67' Catalina, 400 2brrl, th400, all original and never wrecked or painted, under 100k miles also ? the car runs like a top also, the a/c compressor even switches on it was sitting in a barn for over ten years, the brakes work ok, the trans is super tight, only the headlights dont work ..

Good luck with the Wagon. It appears that obvious that there are some areas of attention on the car, but overall looks solid.

How much fun would it be to put your family in one of these land yachts and go for a vacation out to the black hills or the rocky mountains. It makes me want one!!!

Hmmm... The windows might leak just from the butyl seals drying up. If there isn't a lot of rust at the base of them but it just leaks into the interior, it might not be that bad.

The rear quarters and pillars? I can't comment there. Everybody has their thoughts of what is acceptable based on their abilities and/or finances. If you're not going to do the work yourself, have the guy that is going to do the work look at it. You don't want to buy something and then have him tell you it's too far gone.

The drivers floor probably means that the front windshield area is leaking. Could be the same dried out seal. (I'm guessing all my windows leak from the dried out seals, but it just never rained in AZ so my floors are good.)

Just be honest with yourself and don't get too attached before you make a decision. On the other hand, these don't show up all that often. I was looking for at least a year before I found mine. The ability to look at it in person is very fortunate. I bought mine without seeing it in person. It's a bit more work than I had anticipated but I'm still excited.

Can't wait to hear what happens!

I don't know about Firebird rims, but the big cars are 5x5, not 5x4.75 like the A-bodies.

And my car isn't much of a looker, so don't get your hopes up on that one. But beauty is more than skin deep. I put a bit of a write up about it here.. Kinda long but it was fun.

But really, as far as the ad goes... Why would people NOT put "wagon" in the title? The people looking for a Lemans typically don't want a wagon and the people looking for a wagon can imagine why you wouldn't put that in the title and could easily miss it.

Ok. We took a bit of a road trip since we were out but now we are back. I have uploaded some photos and this is what I have to say....I like it but think it might be more than I can deal with. The car runs but has a bit of a sputter from time-to-time (no biggy). It needs brakes all the way around and new tires all the way around (again, no biggy). The rockers look good on it and the back posts are not bad except one spot on the passenger side that is rusted, not through. The interior....well, the back seats are good but the dash, headliner and driver side of the front seat look awful. The car is also missing the front pillar trim on one side and it is not with the car. There was water in the foot well in the very back and the owner said he had left the rear window down a bit (along with the others) to air it out and it came up and rained on it. The car was last on the road in '99. The doors are not rusted and they open and shut well. All the windows work; power and not (the gate window as well). I did not check the floors in the front of the car but I could check that again if purchased and not too big of a deal. Also, the headliner is complete garbage. Anyway, not sure what else to say about it so I will let you comment on the pictures.
