Yes, it's orange. The other thing I can't stand is that almost every car for sale in the classifieds has a "Corvette" motor in it. Like that makes it faster or worth more or something.

Me: ![]() Clerc: "Did you see that movie, 'Back to the Future? What kind of car was that?" After I briefly explain what model my Buick is: "does it have a 3.1?" Me: "Nope. A 3800." Clerk: "oh, a 3.8." After a bit of conversation, I discover he is not old enough to have been born when my car was built. I recently purchased (another) LeSabre T-type ('89). Silver car but the previous owner had installed a (gloss black) replacement front air dam & rear air foil without having them painted to match the car. So I guess it looks like a Delorean.

I got the Dukes of Hazzard comment on my first 69 GTO, carousel red paint and all. I guess since I don't know the diff between a Gucci purse and cheap POS from Walmart I shouldn't expect everyone to know about muscle cars.
![]() Trailered my 69 6bbl Road Runner(505" stroker, 598hp on 92 octane) up to north IA last weekend and on the drive back stopped for some gas...guy sees me get out of the driver's seat of my p/u then proceeds to stop and talk to my brother, informing my brother that his 69 396 Chevelle would have kicked the **** out of my RR. Come on, man up and have the balls to say it to me at least!!

Remember the online entry to win that car? I tried to remember everyday to register for a chance. I think Pierced Mikey posted it here. On the day it was given away I went to a junkyard and I was in the middle of 40 acres when I realized it (the phone) was not with me. When I got back in the truck there was an odd long distance number on the caller ID but nobody would answer a call back. That night I realized that was the day they gave away that GTO. Rules said you had to answer when they called. I'll always wonder.... |

I would LOVE to see someone try to put a set of "fuelie" heads on a 396!! THAT would be hilarious!!!! I haven't had a whole lot of stupid auto questions asked of me, but my
wife DID try to tell me HOW to change the oil in an automobile. It WASN'T pretty!! On the otherhand, I did send a line guy to the parts dept for a gallon of prop wash and he actually WENT!!

I had a guy at a party tell me that "back in the day" he had Mopar with a Hemi and 4:11's that the took to this guys farm somewhere in central Wisconsin. This guy had a race track in the back 40 that people would test their NASCAR race cars at. Well, this guy , of course, took his Mopar out on the track and turned laps at 160mph! Pretty impressive with the 4:11 gearing. When I questioned him about the location of this "track" he suddenly had memory loss. I asked him about the gearing and all he said is "yea, that himi was screaming".
I have also been told at least a half a dozen times "I had a GTO exactly like yours when I was in high school". My usual reply is Oh, you meen my Firebird. |

I have 5 story, 2 from my cousin, 2 from friends, and one from my friends ex
my cousin (same age) is a HUGE liar, he is one of those guys who has to top your story no matter what. He came up to visit, and he has a big 2010 diesel Dodge dually, he messed up the transmission and was taking it off himself, supposedly, well he was telling me all about it, and I said, hey how did you get the transmission out, he says he benchpressed it in place by himself, then i looked at him and said, how did you bolt it up, NO lie, he says he held the trans with his head and knee and bolted it up. ![]() back when those SRT Durangos came out his friend supposedly had one and they hit 220 mph in it my friend R is a HUGE idiot, he took his 85 Chevy (not 4x4) and got it lifted and the engine rebuilt for 500 bucks... he brought it by, the guy welded in blocks as a homemade body lift... the engine was just spray painted metallic green, all the wires, plugs everything was painted, I pulled off the valve covers, black, pulled the oil pan, same my friend B asked me to teach him how to change the oil on his little tacoma, so I showed him how, well about a month later he called me freaked out that there was red stuff all over his driveway. he put the oil drain pan by the engine, but opened the transmission drain plug. I went to his house, half of his driveway was red, and there was a giant red pool by his mail box my friend C's ex called us once, freaking out at walmart, her car wouldnt start, so C told her to open the hood and check a few things. well I hear her freaking out saying that somebody must have broken into her car and stolen everything.. she drove a Fiero and opened the front bonnet...

How about all the people that swear you're running nitrous just because you have some steel braided lines under the hood? I overheard two guys at a cruise just last week, when looking at my bay claiming it had nitrous when he was pointing out the the fuel pressure line. This line doesnt even go anywhere near the carb....
I also cant stand the urban legend I hear about the $100 on the dash, if you can grab it, you can have it BS. I've had guys tell me this as if it actually happened. I just smile and quickly change the subject. Then there is the "my car could smoke the tires @ 70 mph" crowd. Im not so sure your Camaro had that kind of power from its 350 back in the day. Today I admit this is getting more and more plausible (turbos, S/C etc) but Ive heard this statement probably about 1000 times in the last 25 years. How many 1100 HP street cars existed back in 1986? I do tend to look past the glaring mistakes and omissions made by most folks at a cruise or show, but sometimes you just gotta shake your head and walk away.

Wow, guess I grew up in a poor neighborhood! Whenever I heard that story it was only a ten dollar bill. Still didn't believe it. I also have a friend who knows a guy who worked with a guy who knew the guy who bought the '56 Vette that the mother of the guy killed in Viet-Nam listed in the local paper as "1956 chevrolet 2-door ". |

Was at the Woodward Cruise and this old guy pulls up beside my 67 GTO with his older Tunderbird convertible. Nice car-what year is it? 67 I knew it had to be a 67 or 68 I then say well there's a BIG difference beween a 67 and 68. His wife looks at me and rolls her eyes. I do have people wanting to know if its a 66 or 67 and nicely explain about the grills and tail lights.

The basic story stays the same but the car and year seem to change to whatever is the 'hot' musclecar of the day. Hemi Cudas and Yenko Camaros seem to end up in this story a time or two. |

I knew a guy a few years back with a ratty looking 68 GTO with a hideous $100 bright blue Maaco paint job.
Car show was over and we were watching guys doing burnouts as they left. He said to me 'I can't do that with my car 'cause everytime i nail it it lifts the front tires three feet in the air and i'm afraid it might break something'. He was dead serious. His said his car had a 'built' 455 and about 500hp. It looked and sounded like a greasy worn-out stocker with Ford blue on everything including the grease. |

When my stepson was about 19 he and his dad rebuilt a mid 70's full size Buick. I think it was a 400-425 ci. I kept hearing so much BS about this engine rebuild that I turned a deaf ear to almost every claim that I heard.
Just a couple of claims made me laugh: His uncle, about 150 miles away, was going to rebuild the heads and that was going to make it super fast, like a Nascar car. Just rebuilding the engine (rering, bearings and grind valves) with no other mods would give it 500 HP. It would be so gas efficient because he could idle down the highway at 70. And on and on and on. BTW none of claims proved to be true. After about 3000 miles he sold it because the motor was going south. |
