Well I thought the Catalina was sleeping away the summer but it appears that it got out at least once. She just had twins---!!! Guuna name them A/C and D/C, ha.

Turbonetics ball bearing TC76MM, F trim .81 A/R open flange turbine inlet. And look good with the ceramic coated turbine hosings. Good for 1000 hp apiece. These should really work well with my set up. They should spool great, and make enough HP to use the capabilities of the engine as it is built. Now my 750 blow thru will be too small. I'm also pretty set on changing over to E85. More tuning safety. Mark L

I'm still in awe of the deal he pulled off. They werent posted but a few hours on YB with plenty of interested parties ahead of him. Then pulls off a trade cash deal I know I'd be darn proud of.

Way to do it Mark! Hope you got big brakes and a chute in your plans!

Thanks alot, I was going to use a pair of 72's myself but now I'm going to have to revisit my plan.

Hey Matt, how are you doing. He means the site YellowBullet. I was just very lucky that he was right here close by. I think he's like me and hates all the packing for shippment. And I had my S475 that he wanted for his newer GTO. So it all worked out in my favor. Just very lucky and the seller is a nice guy.
Hey Aron, obviously it wasn't me, heh, dem dare turbos is pretty, day cant be mine!!! Mark L

A couple more updates. Over the summer I found a good buy on a full length sumped oil pan.

Came with the pickp and it is equiped with the mesh screen windage tray and a craper, although the scraper does not appear to do anything really.

I've also decided to make the Hilborn fuel pump operative. I still have to find a spud drive for a pontiac to work. I figured, why buy an expensive high flow electric pump when I already have this one. I bought the corresponding plate for the Moon front cover. So the mounting is taken care of. This will also be engineered to run on E85 since there are many more stations offering it now than before. That alone will make a BIG difference in tuning, reliablility, and horsepower production.

I've also settled on the dash placement. The dash will be back in its original location. I had to cut the bottom out to fit around the new column support though.

As you can see I still have final triming around the support to do. My plan is to build a new housing over the support but it will also hold all the new gauges and the speedometer. The original dash will all be blanked out and just be there. The new housing will be an extension of it. I removed and cleaned off the top leading edge of the dash which is normally padded and vinyl covered.

I'm going to use sheet metal to extend that top overhang out over the new housing and maybe a little past it and hang the tachometer from it. Then I'll repad it and cover it in upholstry-vinyl. If I can make it strong enough I may just cover the column support with a basic metal cover and extend out the dash top only, then hang all of the gauges, speedometer and the tach from it??? Mark L

I've decided to use my RAIII manifolds I bought from Paul at R.A.R.E a couple of years ago. I bought them as seconds with intentions of using them for a twin turbo system. This was before building the single turbo system on the TA. I bought them as malformed exit castings knowing that I would be cutting off the bottoms to add Weld Ells to finish the casting. This is the one manifold already cut mounted backwards on the mock up motor in the Cat.

That is the bottom after cutting it off. The other has not been cut yet in case I need to do something differently. I'll add a 90 degree, or a 180 if they make them, cast steel Ell and a V-clamp flange and then run the rest in steel tubing. Actual direction of the manifold mounting (backward or forward) which way the Ell will turn etc will all be determined by the final placement of the turbos. Once I know that I can place everything else and tie it all together.
Lots of ways to go on the turbo placement as well. I have to do some mock ups and take some pics. Mark L

Off topic but I haven't done one of these in a while until Leroy Brown hit me. SOOO.

Leroy Brown

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvwDo...eature=related

Well the South side of Chicago
Lives the baddest Ford in town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of the man named Leroy Brown

Now Leroy is the owner
You see he stands ‘bout six foot four
Although the other drivers call him four speed shaker
Lesser men just call him sir

And he’s bad bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And faster than a junk yard dog

Now Leroy he a driver
And he doesn’t like to lose
And he likes to hear his big block singin’
As it’s tearing up the road
He’s got a custom supercharger
He’s got it fuel injected too
He’s got a NOS shot in his motor for fun
He’s got a lead plate in his shoe

And he’s bad bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And faster than a junk yard dog

Now Friday ‘bout a week ago
Leroy’s cruisin’ nice
And on the street sat a car
On the door it said Hemi
And OOO that car looked fast
Well he stopped and pulled beside it
And the trouble soon began
Cause Leroy Brown learned a lesson ‘Bout messing with the car of a Mopar man

And he’s bad bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And faster than a junk yard dog)

Well the two men started racing
And when they both hit second gear
Leroy looked just a little bit puzzled
‘Cause the Cuda was up and gone
He was bad bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And faster than a junk yard dog
He was bad bad Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damn town
Badder than old King Kong
And faster than a junk yard dog

Badder than old King Kong
Faster than a junk yard Dog

Thanks JKD, I just had to do it.
I received the Chevy pump drive spud today. So here are the pics of the front cover plate, adaptor, and the drive spud.

A word to the wise- with that bolt-together style drive, some wiggle-room to the pump's hex shaft is a good idea. I suggest that the dimension across the pump's hex flats be about .010" less than the spud's recess measures.

Have you provided some means of precisely locating the pump centerline to the cam's center?

Mark,

Do you have a roll pin for the adapter? I have a bag of them if you want one. I bought a quantity when I first had them designed and built. email or call if you want one or maybe you can find one at a hardware store?

Steve, thank you. Let em see if I can come up with one otherwse I'll look you up. Are they a standard roll pin or are they a special diameter? I sure do apprecite the offer.
Jack. I'm not sure if I understand the meaning of first sentence but I planned to get the motor together and use a dial indicator to center the moon cover to the cam etc, if the cover is within tolerances???? I'm hoping the ceterlines on all the pieces are true but I have to figure out how to measure them to get everyting as true as possible. I appreciate the heads up though, no doubt you're mentioning it from your own experience. At first blush I was just looking at bolting everything together. But as I got deeper into the project more and more I started seeing things tha will need alignments and attention. Your post just reasured my suspicions.Thank you. Mark L

Is the chrome belt molding stock or did you use something else? If you did, what did you use?

That's 'cause I didn't attempt to 'splain my meaning!

Even when precise location of centerlines is accomplished (cam/spud/pump), perfect orientation of all of the items' axes is not within reason to measure or correct. Even high-end shops make some assumptions- that cam centerline is perpendicular to block face, etc. It's best to allow for this possible slight cam-to-pump angularity with a loose-fitting drive.

I prefer to dowel-pin (or otherwise locate) all precision-location engine pieces (timing cover to block, etc.), so the dial indicator work is only required initially.

Hobby, the belt moulding was on the car when I bought it. I think it is a dealership type moulding addition. It holds a strip of a once pliable rubber or ? material that was hardened to rock and cracked. I'm still deciding on what to do with the moulding/strip. If I can find a strip to use in the moulding I'll probably keep it and replace the strip. It's actually not a bad looking accessory and does a great function. I also don't look forward to closing up all the rivet holes that would be left after removing it. Just have not gotten that far yet. HEY, how about a neon light strip down the side, you know, computer controlled so it would move back and forth, yeah dats it, cool. OR, maybe not, heh! Mark L

I thought that was your meaning. And I agree, especialy since I intend to use this drive system for several miles compared to the original designed use of the parts. There is some "slop" in the fit beteen the drive and the hex driven pump shaft, but that could invite early wear and metal shavings. So I will have to do some continuous observation of the mating surfaces. I still have to decide on my turbo drain locations. If I can locate them to the side of the MOON cover I may be able to direct the oil flow right over the spud drive/hex shaft location to bathe the connection in oil. There may be plenty of oil in suspension up there from the chain etc but no gaurantee that it would get into the drive/hex cavity. Although still no gaurantee, the oil bath would not be a bad idea. Mark L
