Haven't got the car body in the shot yet. Here is what will be living in the second 62's engine bay.

The engine is a 1961 Bonnivlle 389 with tri-power. I am keeping the 61 heads and intake. It is flatter than the newer style and will make the fit under the hood easier. .040 over on the pistons, 10.25 to 1 compression. A good port and polish on the head with the hardened valves and guides. Polished and ballanced crankshaft and connecting rods. Oh yea, 400 connecting rods. Cambshaft is from Jegs, total duration 282/292 at .050 it is 224/234. 1.5 rockers give a lift of 465/488. Cam timing at .050 is intake 3 BTDC exhaust 56BBDC for open; close is intake 41ABDC exhaust 2ATDC.

The Fram filter is what the builder stuck on the engine. Yes it will get changed to a full size filter.

Very impressive motor!! My engine builder swears by the fram filter, says nothing else filters better and he claims he has tested them in his shop to back up his claim.

I have had to rebuild too many engins due to cheap filters. The only filter I have ran on the Tempest is NAPA gold #1049. Its made by WIX filters. WIX number for the same filter is 31049.

Wow, that's a lot of rods. I've always gotten away with just eight rods in a V8.

You don't build engines in lots of fifty at a time?

Default Finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got the car into the body shop on Saturday. Now the back of my truck is full of car interior. The back seat stinks, there was a mouse house in it. Oh well, the plan was a complete restoration so it will get new foam, and vinyl covers. I will not know how the springs are until I get all of the covering and padding off. Time for some good rubber gloves.
This is the dissassembly part where you find out how much real work you have.

Default 62-Tempest

The trans cross member is done now.
On to the motor plate fabbing and finish.
Then fit the mid plate and brackets.

Great job, blueghoast! Man I wish mine was a stick. I have a feeling I'll be changing it out someday.

Thanks R 70. I've always had at least one 4-speed around.
My 64-Tempest is a 4-gear.
I got the motor plate done and bolted in, Fits great.
Still got a hole lot of finish welding to do yet, Man I,m
getting tired of welding, I'm really getting excited about
driving this thing. Gonna be a blast this coming summer.

I finally found my clutch+brake pedal ass.
I pulled them out of a 63 at a junk yard years ago
at the time I didn't think there was a differance untill
i went to install them. I can make them work I just don't
want the modify them if I can find a set of 62-padals.
Does anyone have a picture to show the diff so I'll know
what I need to do to modify or just start with another set.
I've got a few of a-body pedals I can make work if I have to.
A picture would help a lot to see what i need to do to a set
of other pedals. Thanks.

I would be interested in buying your '63 clutch/brake pedal assembly if you decide to go with a '62 assembly.

Default 63 hot rod update

Finally back working on my project. Today, started installing the interior insulation for a cooler, quieter ride. The material is from a company called Fat Mat (fatmat.com). It is easy to cut with a carpet knife and install since it has self sticking backing. I think it goes for about $80 for 50 sq. ft. on ebay.

Next the wiring harness gets installed. For floor covering, I am thinking of using molded vinyl floor covering from Auto Interior and Upholstery. (www.auto-interior.com) They make a molded vinyl covering for '63 chevy II's that should fit a Tempest with a modified tranny tunnel. Anyone know of this company or purchased stuff from them?

I figured that someone could use them, Thats why I didn't want to
modify them and try to find a set of 62 pedals. I was hoping to trade
for a set for the 62, Or sell mine to pay for the ones I need.
I'll keep you in mind grparen.

P.S. If I modify a set of a-body pedals to fit my 62 I'll sell ya mine.

Pics would really help::
