My first musclecar - 1971 Buick GS Stage1 Convertible, circa 1984. Bought it June 1st 1984, the day I graduated high school. Sold it in 1989 after graduating college and had no money and no job. Three months later, I did get a job and wished I hadn't sold it.

Next up, 1969 Buick GS Stage1 4-speed. Bought this car in 1989 after getting my job but it didn't replace the 71. Sold it a year later and bought a bamboo cream 70 GS455 convertible.

Here is the Bamboo Cream 70 GS455 convertible, circa 1990. It need to be restored. I ended up selling it a year later and finding a different 70 GS455 convertible to restore.

Lastly, the 70 GS455 convertible I ended with. Burgundy Mist with white, very sharp car. This was 1992. Sold the car the following spring and left the car hobby for a few years. In 1996, I bought my 1968 Firebird 400HO convertible that I still have today.

Keith, great story.... Spent some time looking at your pcs on your home page and watched the vid you put up on youtube as well. Truely enjoyed them. My dad thinks he may have raced a 63SD with my HO at Lee County Speedway (Keokuk IA) way back when. As he recalls, it wasn't much of a race. Anybody's guess. But, one this is for sure... Your dad definitely raced a 63SD.

Lol, looks like we've both had our share of Buick muscle. Funny that we both had really similar cars, with only 81 built in '71. I got mine from the original owner, and kept up with it until about 5 years ago. It went to NC, and I lost track. I could buy a truckload of T/A's for what that car would cost today, given it sold for almost $60k back in '98.

My dad drag raced Buicks in the late 50's. He is a lifetime BCA member, and we always had a bunch of Buicks around when I was growing up. I started out in a '57 Century hardtop, but we had a zillion GS cars, a couple early Rivieras with 2x4's, all the way up through the T-type and turbo Regals. At some point I went through a bunch of Camaros but have stuck with mostly Trans Ams ever since. I think it was the '74 Super Duty I got, when I sold the car in the picture- that 455 SD car really did it for me.

A little off-topic since nobody in this pic. Just a neat old pic. Actually it was an old slide that i took to walmart and had made into a pic today.

The Vette belongs to my uncle.
The GTO is my parents 66. It is wearing chrome reverse on whitewall tires.
Pic was taken in 1968.

Oh yeah,both cars were bought new and are still in the family.

Thank you; as an aside, our car was built as a SD and then coverted over the fender to an HO car, so that it could run in the "B" classes (B/Stock when we could get away with it or B/FX when we couldn't).

Dad was at Royal one day and there was a complete SD setup sitting on the parts counter. He started to buy it to put on his car and Dick Jesse directed him not to -based on the above rationale.

Now, these many years later, it occurred to Dad that he may actually have been preparing to purchase the parts that were removed from his own car in the first place....

Yeah, I was a big Buick GS guy back then. My dad was always a Buick guy and I always had a taste for the unusual and liked being different. I was in the GSCA from 1984-92 and still have all of my GSX-tras (monthly publications). I still love these cars but enjoy the Pontiac crowd and the variety of really cool performance cars that Pontiac built through the years. However, those 2x4 Rivs are really cool too.

I was at least the 4th or 5th owner of mine. I paid $3,900 for it in 1984 as you see it, ahhh those were the days. It had 66k original miles and was pretty much original except for the wheels and a repaint. Sold it way too cheap in 1989. That owner still has it but it is in somewhat worse shape now thanks to a garage fire a number of years ago.

BTW, did you see the white Stage1 go through Mecum yesterday. I love that car in its bare bones flavor. I bet that thing would absolutely haul arse. I thought the bidding was way high on it though and it still didn't meet reserve.

We got ours with 71k miles on it in '77- just a used car then, sitting in someone's garage. It looked almost new. We paid $1500 for it and drove it home 2-1/2 hours. I remember my dad looking at it hard, checking the oil, asking a ton of questions... I remember thinking, "Just pay the man and let's GO!!"

It was an extremely strong running car for being stock, the torque was unbelievable from that 455.

That pic is probably only a year or two old.

I don't know the owner... But I have been going to Kingdon for the last few years and remember seeing that car run.... Its a '66 LeMans....

My 1970 GS455 circa 1982.

With 80,000 original miles, unmolested and original, some rust and some dents. When I bought it she had whitewall JC Penny tires, K-Mart mufflers, and the owner was selling it because he couldn't find leaded premium gas anymore. It had original paint, with a/c, power windows, power door locks, tilt wheel, AM/FM stereo, rear defog, power bucket seat, this thing probably weighed 4000 lbs.

Stone stock, untouched engine, with exhaust manifolds, gummed up Q-Jet, ram air foam worn away, and a leaking water pump that some Bar's Leaks fixed, I drove this around daily, and I loved it. The stirrup shifter on the console, the way the shift indicator moved on the dash, the comfortable seats and ride, great car.

My favorite all-time "other brand" car.

My business partners in-laws have a '70 GS455 that they bought new. Its triple green with a bench seat.... original paint garage kept California car with 140,000 miles on it... the car has been sitting in the garage since the early 90's.... and NO... they won't part with it... I tried...
