Those SD carbs are pretty HEAVY with all that emmissions CRAP on them....

Try one from a LATE 70's 301,they are bigger & should flow some better #'s than the SD carb.

Good thought. The SD SR carb is nicely calibrated right out of the box. Check total timing and verify that the centrifugal advance is working as well.

Good luck!

Right on brother! How is she running now with that super duper triple hippo carb that Cliff R set up for you? (or do you still the car have it apart?)

Speaking of that I just ordered the new accelerator pump from Cliff with the ethanol approved seals for my #'s matching carb for the 73 SD and wanted to take you up on your offer to help me install it. And, I could finally get your keys back to you!
Lemme know if you want your keys back! LOL. Holding them for ransom! Ha Ha !

Seriously, we could do the cave thing and maybe Brewster could just SHOUT orders at us while having a cool one......?

Yep, The SD SR carb was just the ticket! She runs WAY better now.
Thank you everyone for the input, it got me thinking back to my initial direction and sometimes that is a good thing! Sometimes ya just can't see the trees standing in the middle of the forest.
My initial thoughts were that it was starving for fuel, but after checking timing, distributor advance, fuel pump and filter, I hooked up a vacuum gage and saw a bit of flutter so I started thinking valve train. Guess that is where I got off track......

Anyway I did observe that the air flaps for the secondaries were quite tight compared to the SR carb that almost seemed too loose; barley returned to closed when pushed. I checked the carb on my 74 Formula and they "felt" much lighter than the HO carb, but stiffer than the SR SD carb, so maybe I just need to adjust the spring tension on the HO carb. I will try that next I think

Only other thought is the two feed tube pressed in the the bottom of the air horn, perhaps one or both have fallen out. I here this can be a common issue.

Sorry for the long post, but I am thrilled that this may be the issue and will not have to start pulling the heads

I just posted in the Super Duty Forum and suddenly realized I needed a 455 H.O. fix before I lost my bearings

PB, there is a great artilce from (I think) Pontiac Enthusiast... circa 2010 titled 'Out of the Shadows' that dyno's a '71 455 H.O. This would be a great article to link to your website and here too. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the online version of it.

If anyone has it would you please post. Thanks.

Cool Barn Find.....in my own BARN!

Almost forgot I had this one.....couldn't see it for all the sh*t I had piled on it!

First time out in the daylight for 7 years.

Started right up like it had been parked for 2 months & ran like a CHAMP! (try THAT one with a WOMAN)

Took it out for a run on Saturday.......455 HO with an M22.......what more do you need to say?

From what I can see of the thermal vacuum switch on the intake, it's a '71.

EDIT: studied that engine pic again and it's definitely a '71 - it's got the "east-west" mounted choke thermostat on the intake heat exhaust crossover.

Note to 2many: "you need to get out more", LOL.

Tis a 71 and mostly original,notable exceptions being a 744 cam upgrade,vintage Flowmaster transverse exhaust,Radial T/A's & a set of vintage Ricky Ricardo seats.(AND 72 deluxe door panels....)

I've added the Honeycombs & rear bumper guards....but have original KR's stashed.

The original seats are in the trim shop getting repaired (as we speak) but I COULD really use a BETTER drivers door panel (71 blue deluxe),if anybody knows of one?

I've heard mixed reviews on the repop door panels & would prefer to stay with ORIGINAL for color match reasons, etc.

Can't WAIT to get my allowance tomorrow morning & I figure I'm going to spend MOST of it on GAS!

2many is correct . . .

15x7, 14" center Rally IIs were standard fare on the 1971 Trans Am - a few very ealry cars had the "KN" coded wheels, while most were shod with KRs.

15x7 Honeycombs were optional.

All 1971 15" Honeys were equipped with the plain center caps and NO TRIM RINGS!

Can you guys tell me what the letter codes for wheels that were 15" rally II's and did Not take a trim ring. And, we're they '70 only? I know the profile of the wheel where the acual rim meets the center section is different on these wheels.
