insert looks like beryllium copper. Probably work good in the application.

I'm thinking of going bigger(more cubes) and droping CR by 1.5 pints..to help gaskets live?
Probably just a band aid..

How many pass are you currently getting on your head gaskets before they need changed?
I didnt realize this was an issue for the Tiger heads unless you really pushed the compression and hp like Langer, Rex & Dwight.

It is not a must do item. Most racers don't have any problem. Look at it as insurance.

You know the head gasket will always fail in the final round at the big money event.

Right?

i am very surprised that you are having problems with that compression ratio.. how many passes are you going before you notice a gasket going?? i had 14.7 to 1 and could go all year with my e-heads without changing gaskets, but its only like 45 tp 50 passes a year. I upped the compression for this year so we will see how it acts now.. i have no water going to the head either in the middle.

Can't say it's a Tiger "issue"...I have had some cooling problems to..which sure didn't help. My Cometics went at about double the passes of Kinsler's....like about 85-90 passes...at Norwalk last year...natchurally .......right Bob C.
I feel my excessive 215* temps at times sure didn't help..
I have added rear cooling lines and new bigger fan and different restrictor + 16v zings the water pump & fan. Temps haven't gone over190-195* so far......but it's not HOT yet.
Going to keep a close eye on them this time..First sign of leaking they're going to Calvin..

Default Tiger Inserts

New inserts where tried at Cordova on Fri and Sat for the West Q-8 bracket race. Stars where aligned correctly and won the race. Have to believe the inserts worked very well as this engine has never been this consistant except for the first several runs after changing the head gaskets.

Fri 4500 launch rpm--------60ft

1st run-8.82 @153.96-----1.302
2-------8.84 @153.30-----1.303
3-------8.83 @153.61-----1.293

Sat 5500 launch rpm

1st------8.76 @152.76-----1.241
2--------8.77 @153.44-----1.250
3--------8.76 @153.70-----1.252 elimination run
4--------8.75 @153.35-----1.253 elimination run
5--------8.75 @153.65-----1.246 elimination run

For the car to be this consistant I am quite sure there was no insert problem or head gasket leak. We are checking leak down today to see if there are any changes.

Glen congrats on the victory, please keep us informed on the leakdown. I am getting tired of buying headgaskets and shaving the heads. thanks MK

Stellar results. LETS begin to ponder the berylium bridge connection to consistency. Cool running allow 4 CYLS to fire better (at proper advance)?

It's an issue on any Pontiac running 12:1 CR and higher, due to the 4 fasteners per cylinder arrangement. Bump the compression up higher through more cubes and bigger bores and the problem is only exacerbated by less area between cylinders (especially on the center two cylinders where the heat from the siamesed exhaust ports wreaks havoc).

I remember a conversation with Jack Gaydosh about high CR and head gaskets when he was still running Pontiac power in his old car. I remember him saying when he ran coppers with an O-ring that he had to replace the gaskets after about 15 passes because the leakdown between the two center cylinders would be too great. He went with Cometics when they became available and was able to more than double the cycle life of the head gaskets.

So................Glenn, how much were you squirting it? Glad to hear everything seems to be A-OK.

I'm using a double o-ring set up in my engine and after 50 or so runs (only at 9-11 lbs. of boost) everything was OK. When I took a leak down test.

Glad ur having success with ur set up George! I think u might find if u turn the wick up in the mid to high 20lbs, u might find there is a bit more maintenance and issues... you are running at relatively low boost. Don't know if u ever plan to turn it up that high? If you do you will certainly fly but it comes at a cost with issues like this...

Scott I understand that I am not running at high boost levels right now, just was wondering what Glenn's set up is on his 7 passes.
