My buddy called me today from the chrome shop and said the half of my bumper that he saw was perfect!
But, I won't see them until Sunday or Monday!

Knowing my buddy like I do, if there was a pimple on the underside that wouldn't ever show he would make the shop redo them.
I know nothing is perfect, except for my wife's first husband, and I expect a blemish or slight imperfection but I hope they are as nice as he says they are.

I bet they are Phil. If he sent them out I don't think he'd send them to anyone that wouldn't do the best they could. Sounds like he's just as fussy with the body and primer as you say. I bet you'll be so please you won't want to take it out of the garage when it's done. And I hope that's the case for ya.

I got my bumpers last night and am very pleased with them. I also got the mirror bracket that had to be re done because the screw was left in it and chromed over. It turned out great as well. It cost me $790.00 to have both bumpers chromed and the mirror bracket was free. When my buddy picked up the bumpers he dropped off my grab bar to be done. I bought the interior door and window handles from Bob Vidan for $34.00 and I bought a rear view mirror from Andre but I won't add that to the totals until I get it.
So, this week I spent $824.00 with another $83.00 pending. Here are some pictures of the chrome work with a before and after of the mirror bracket. I took these pictures last night with a flash because I couldn't wait until today to do it! My Labor @449 hrs.........$8,980.00 Parts..........................$13,909.96 Outside Labor................$9,091.00 Gifts............................$2,791.25 Total..........................$34,266.21

Wow..they did one hell of a job on the bumpers and mirror arm. They look great Phil. You've now made most of us jealous on the job they did..... all except for the cost.
LOL You should post who did it and they're address. I'm sure they'll get more business from the guys here.

I'm really glad you keep this thread updated Phil. It's interesting to keep up with your progress and to see your car coming back to live. I especially like that you've maintained the running tab. It seems like our cars were in approximately the same condition prior to being restored, and because we took different approaches (I "outsourced") to get to basically the same end states, I've been very curious to see where you end up. Since you're getting so close, do you have a guesstimate?

I am hoping another $5,000 will get me very close. I still have to get the interior and top installed and the estimate for that is $22-2,400.00. I already have the interior package but that price includes buying the top and using Dyno-mat. I also have to get the A/C finished up. I am guessing $1,000 for that. Then I have to buy the lower rocker moldings and some small parts for about another grand. Steering wheel restoration is about $300.
And, I am sure I am going to owe Norman between $500 and $1,000 more. So, maybe I better revise my estimate to a million dollars just in case I forgot something! If you look at the numbers I have actually paid out about $23,000 but, when you add in the initial cost of the car it is pretty close to my total,

Looks like our the totals will be within a couple/few hundred dollars...pretty remarkable. Useful information to know that it takes about 40k to restore a solid/complete car to this condition.

Y'all know what today is? It's the first Sunday in June and that means the month of May is over. And, as Y'all know, my painter said the car would be ready by the end of May! But, he didn't say what year!! I talked with him last Friday and he said one to two more weeks!
Anyway, I haven't done much else in the buying department but my wife bought me a new T-shirt from Cracker Barrel.

You and me both, buddy! I keep saying there is a reason for the car not being painted yet. Maybe, it's because my shop is full of building materials to add a "lawn equipment" room on. I don't want anything near the car when it does come home.
I have to schedule a day off from work to get the slab poured then, it won't take long to get the addition done.

I've got one of those shirts too Phil that came from Las Vegas. They are pretty nice but.... they need one with a 66 on it. Seems we're the ones usually left out for shirts.
