Smart to change your password. It's also smart to change it every 90-120 days as well. Frequently changing your password is one of the best ways to protect your account.

Sometimes the emails don't even come from your account. The source could be some one that has your email address in their contacts list.
Happened to me a while back. Should have seen the abusive replies I was getting from some of people that got these emails that I allegedly sent. On the other hand I got one thankyou from one person that got one of these emails which had a link to an online store that sold electrical goods. In most parts they are harmless but bloody annoying. |

And here I was blaming the fat people porn on you Patrick!
Seriously change your password to something unrelated and go on.

I have to deal with this all the time in my IT job. It's more likely you were "spoofed" than actually hacked. Hacked means that someone has figured out your e-mail password, meaning they can go and read your e-mail, send, etc. More commonly your e-mail address is spoofed, meaning a spammer found your address and is using it to send out spam. When they send it out, they use your spoofed name in the "from field" so that the recipient see's a legit sender address and opens it. More than likely someone elses computer got a virus and sent his/her contact list (with your good e-mail address) to the spammer for use in his spam program.

Mine was hacked earlier this year. A couple of family members received a couple of nearly pornographic e-mails and contacted me. I changed my password and apologized.
IF I ever catch the POS, I GUARANTEE the scumbag WON'T be using a keyboard until the broken hand bones heal!!

Mine was hacked recently and I found out when I got returned emails that I didn't send. The subect ("Look at this property") I had never sent to anyone, so I just changed my password...again.

You can't unforunetely. Notify your friends and contacts that someone hacked a computer with your contact info. Most decent spam filter programs will quickly learn and weed out the spam containing your e-mail address in the "from" field. The system we use (Cisco Iron Port) updates its spam algorithm daily, sometimes hourly. It should stop soon.

Does anyone know if Yahoo puts a limit on how many attempts you get before revoking access to your email account?
If there is no limit, then you really need to make your password very complex. Mine is a series of four unrelated words with a few special characters. When my son first set up an email account, he chose zaq12wsx and it was hacked within a month. Mike |
