Did this car with optional Ram Air 3 engine? XV block? If not what is the XV block for? What heads came on the car if in fact it was able to be ordered? Was there the pull knob? Ram Air hood components?
Anyone ever seen one? I have someone who claims to have one ...

never happened...never made a ram air tempest in 70 by the factory and released..someone made it if it has that stuff..why would they let a lowley tempest compete with the money maker ram air GTO?...
XV is a 330 horse 400 auto in 70 its a # 16 small valve head..and is a four barrel...but its the base 400 for an auto

Really only '71. In '72 you had to order the endura option to get the big gun (455HO). All the rest of the engines could be ordered in any A body. 2 dr, 4 dr, wagon in either year. '73 you could get the GTO engine in any A body.
Oops, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Back to the subject. If you do a search on this subject here, there is more info. It has been discussed in detail in the past.

And again, on many msrp's it was called either a T-37 or LeMans T-37.
No Tempest in '71. And no T-37 only LeMans in '72.

Sounds a lot like the junker in this Dallas Craigslist ad:
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/3223525483.html This roach has been for sale for a long time, although it just recently acquired "Ram Air III" status. I suspect in another couple of months it will make the jump to Ram Air IV...

The comment I responded to was "why would they let a lowley tempest compete with the money maker ram air GTO?" so it still stands, as Pontiac offered its top motors in their lowliest of A-bodies.

could it be one of the 50 tempests built by knafel pontiac?

Knaefel's car, the Magnum 400, was just a decal slapped onto a Tempest. It was nothing unusual other than a hi-po Tempest that was branded by a dealer.

I believe all of the Magnum 400s were 400 4-speed post coupes. The "50" number for production seems to coincide with a fleet order.

It's my understanding that the Magnum 400 was a production Tempest ordered with the 400 motor and a Magnum 400 decal slapped on it at the dealership. Other than that decal, it's just like any other 400 Tempest that was ordered by any other dealer.

As with most thing dealers did to cars that sat in their lot as "post factory mods". It was well documented with a "add-on" price to the window sticker and/or bill of sale.
That would be cool to see that documentation!

Not sure if you're suggesting they came with RAIV from the factory, but it's doubtful. I agree with what Mike says.
