X4 on gloves! And if dealing with liquids or grease, rubber gloves. Avoids all of the other headaches in the first place.

I mostly use dish soap. If my hands get especially heinous, I'll start with some Go-Jo and then follow up with dish soap.

I go through lots of nitrile gloves from harbor freight. About 8-10 pairs just last night.

Dawn and Lava bars.
Better yet, keep some hand scrubs with your tools, when you finish the job, scrub your hands with the wipes/scrubs and remove almost all of the junk Before you go into the house. I have used both of these, and they are great; http://www.zep.com/ZepSearch/default...xact&country=U http://www.dymon.com/dymon-product.php?product=1177

Before I head to the garage I rub some dish soap, like Dawn or Sunlight, straight onto my hands and away I go. A few drops is all it takes to coat your hands. When finished dish soap and water and I'm good to go.

I use hand lotion when I'm on my way out to turn a wrench.

They actually make a product specifically for that. It's called "Barrier Cream".

Dish soap has always worked for me. Don't use gasoline.
