Default 428 SD

How desirable is a 67 428 SD ??

Compete stock engine, stock heads and even factory exhaust manifolds.
minus intake and carbs,,,, i know it was a 3 x 2

What made the 428 a super duty that year ?

Can it be the monster the 421 SD was ?

No 428 SDs. Check all the numbers and date codes on theblock, that should tell what's there.

Also - no tripowers in '67. Last year for the tripower (except Corvette) was '66.

I think "the man" was listening to either Tokyo Rose or Miss Information.

Take pictures and post them.

There is alot of guys who can make up a good story but the past posts are all correct, the guy is feeding you a line hopeing you will take the bait & fish you in for some quick big bucks. Again NO 428 SD's & NO tri-power (3x2) for any Pontiac after 66. It can be put on & it works but None from the factory that way.

About the Pontiac 428 Engine The Pontiac 428-cubic-inch V-8 engine was only available from 1967-1969. It powered such cars as the Grand Prix, and was in limited numbers on the GTO and Firebird. Its origins can be traced to Pontiac's development of the V-8 in 1946.

Background
General Motors' Pontiac was slow in developing the V-8, clinging to the inline-eight engine that served Pontiac since 1933, but relented in 1952 to match other GM engines, according absoluteastronomy.com.

428 Origins
The 428 is derived from the 421-ci V-8 that debuted in 1961 as Pontiac's Super Duty version, and was used in NASCAR stock car racing, according en.allexperts.com.

Long Journal
The 421 and the 428 were the first of Pontiac's big "long journal" V-8s, with the 421 featuring large 3.25-inch main journals, a 4 3/32-inch bore and 4-inch stroke, according absoluteastronomy.com.

Bigger is Better
The 421 was produced until 1967, when the 428 debuted with a larger 4 ¼-inch bore and the same size stroke and main journals, according to yearone.com.

Slight Changes
Pontiac stopped using steel crankshaft in 1961 and shifted to cast iron, but used a stronger alloy in the cast iron for the 1969 428s, according absoluteastronomy.com.

Short-Lived
The 428 was only available in large Pontiacs, and a few were factory installed in GTOs and Firebirds before being replaced for 1970 by the 455, according to absoluteastronomy.com.

Well, there's no reason for the guy to call you names, but why not show him some documentation via the catalog? Go to tocmp.com for the brochure.

Whatever the case, the thing you posted above has no credibility based on the "428 installed in Firebirds and GTOs" alone.

I can't imagine that an astronomy site would make any mistakes about Pontiac engine availability....

A 428 with a 4 1/4" bore, really! Pure stupidity.

The seller sounds like the clown that tried to convince me he had a "factory installed"
Tri-Power on a '65 LeMans 326.

The 428, and 326 , and 400 was derived from the 421, and 389. It doesn't make it a SD.

There were no mulitple carbs.

It's probably an HO that someone threw a different intake on.

Hey, I'll sell you a 1969 326 SD, X-code block, COPO, NASCAR, factory experimental (and every other buzz word the Chevy guys use) with factory high performance manifolds, and I won't call you names.

I heard it has tunnel port semi-hemi heads with 4 valves per cylinder.
