Default Performance Distributors DUI

Has anyone tried one of Performance Distributors' DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) distributors? They're located right here in Memphis. Any thoughts or reviews?

Dad has one on his 67 Firebird convertible. .030 400 with 670 heads. Wolverine blue racer WG-5059 (Jim Hand uses this cam in his 455 wagon) with 1.65 rockers. Holley 750. We had a Holley Street Dominator on it but we're going with a Performer RPM. We're also adding Rhoads variable lifters. He has the street/strip DUI on his. He really likes it. I wanted to see if everyone else liked it too. I'm getting one for my 73. Thanks

I would say go for it also. My hubby bought me one for the my Astre several years back. The car's not on the road yet but we had no problems with the distributor! And he's pretty anal so I'm sure he did a lot of research on them!!

I've got one in my pump gas motor and one in the IA2. When we dynoed the pump gas compared it to a new MSD and the dyno's 7AL box and no difference.

4mula,

Its a good deal. If you're here in Memphis, you should already know that.

They guys over there are good as gold, and will see you get took care of.

They are friends of mine and hell, they even claim that they know me too...

Talk to David or Brian and they'll get ya fixed up right proper.

And if they can't, and you want your dist fixed, you never know they might just give you a phone number where you can get that done too.

Thanks everyone. Sun, Dad knows David and I'd rather support a local business too. Thanks again

Hey 4mula73:

None of my business, but what do these DUI distributors go for, money wise?
I'm nearing the time where I'll be needing one for my 62 Catalina resto and I want to go with an HEI, but haven't decided to get a good rebuilt one by one of the experts on the forum or go with an aftermarket unit like you did. Just weighing my options..............

Thanks, Jerry

My cousin got one directly from them, which they will take your info and establish a timing curve on the distrib before you get it. They scribed the timing info on the bottom of the unit. Expensive, but really good quality.

PunchT37, for their DUI, it is about $305 and their Livewires are $99. Not bad if you consider all the benefits. Its the same price range as other high performance distributors, plus they create a custom advance curve for your vehicle. Vacuum advance is available too. If you're running a Tripower, they have a distributor to fit that too. Here is the link to their website:

I would definitely recommend them. Like I said earlier, Dad has one on his Bird. You can get the cap in black, blue, red, yellow, or clear. The wires are available in black, yellow, blue, purple, red, or silver. By the way, good luck with your Catalina. I really like that bodystyle.
