Here is my 1951 GMC my son and I owned. Fresh up from North Carolina where it had been junked and sitting since 1976. The hood was gone so the block had a bunch of water in the oil. Changed the oil and I bolted a starter and a carb to it and actually got it running for a few seconds.
We traded this truck for the gold 1971 GT-37 we used to own and the 1969 4 bolt main 428 we now have. ![]() ![]() ![]()

x2 and IIRC the Doug Thorley "Big Tubes"(?) Side Pipes - in Chrome or Satin Black - were pretty bitchin on the C3 Vettes too

At the time, those header systems were referred to as 'taco pipes' around here. The car was real loud with that gear and the side exhaust. Many who rode in it were intitiated by burning the back of their calf getting out, including me. I remember seeing ads in national magazines for these header side pipes available for 400 firebirds but, never saw a set in person. Has anyone ever seen a Firebird with these header side pipes like the 'vettes had? back to pictures... Here it looks like a little chevy came apart. ahhhhh

when i was in my early 20's a good friend of mine used to have a 427 tricarb convert with hooker show tubes on it. he took all the baffles out of them, and man that beast was loud. i lived in a neighborhood where all my neighbors were quite a bit older than me and they just hated our cars. he would always give them a really special rev when they were outside and he would drive by.
