Flood lights on back of garage(behind house).
The woods(300 plus acres) are 200' from house divided by a creek on edge of property. Beyond that is 30 acre retention for flood water. Then 2000-3000 acres of farm fields. Forgot to mention. The poodles where out(fenced in area) just b4 it happened. Both where quite...

RW,
There is a coyote season in IN. You might want to investigate when it runs. We were having coyote problems in the southern third of the state back in the 1980s. The coyotes were interbreeding with dogs:BIG suckers that weren't afraid of ANYTHING. That's why I carried a 12 gauge loaded with 00 buck on night flight line checks.

My wife used to hose the next door neighbour's barking dog. Dog got the message as well as neighbour when he finally figured why his dog looked like a drowned rat every now and again.

Bingo! You and others speak the truth, what we have here is an owner problem not a dog problem. There is a little dog across the street from me that seems to think he's doing a good job protecting his master's house by barking his head off at the sight of any person or any animal. The dog is being incorrectly rewarded for BAD BEHAVIOR

Out here in the country when we had coyote problems my dad and grandad would get household sponges(the cheap bulk kind) soak em in antifreeze and set them in the field. Works. But ofcourse pets can get ahold of them to so be sure.

My neighbor's Weimaraners used to bark like crazy whenever they saw me or anyone else. Didn't bother me much since it's good neighborhood security and it's across the street. One of the rare times he had them out in front of his house, I went over and greeted and petted his dogs. They ended up being very friendly. No more barking at me since then. I guess some dogs have a strong desire to check out what's on the other side of the fence and if they can't get to it, they bark like crazy.
I like the idea of using the water hose on the dog since it is unlikely to be looked at as being cruel by animal control or the neighbor.

My neighbors dogs bark at anything that moves. It is a pain to listen to not being a dog owner myself, but it is built in security since I am alerted to anyone nearby instantly.

I love dogs. I've always had a dog. But I hate uncontrolled dogs and the owners that are the real issue.
A former neighbor would let his dog bark for hours. I spoke to him about it and he lamely responded that he hadn't noticed it. I said "no problem, I'll call you when it happens". It only took a couple calls to train the neighbor. Soon after, the guy would call his dog in as soon as the phone rang. Then he made an effort to stop the dog from barking. Success ! I wanted to scratch behind his ears and sat "goo-boy!" To the guy - not the dog. |

My neighbors three large dogs would bark constantly every time I was out in the yard. I bought a large box of "Milkbones" They love me now. Dogs are like politicians, they can be bought.

I suspect that without the owners cooperation this problem won't be solved. Working together (you and them) with a shock collar on the dogs would do it! If the owners don't cooperate then it is time to turn them in to the appropriate authorities.
