I pulled a muscle in my back. Of course trying to do a favor for the wife lifting a lundry basket. Its bad to the point I couldn't put weight on my right leg at first. I still have lower back pain when I walk. I Look like an old man walking.I have muscle relaxers. Any other ointments or something I can try? I appreciate the help.

Get in a hot tub of water....hot as you can stand it...and just sit. Make your wife rub it with Witch Hazel several times a day. Groan in pain every time she is within earshot. Do this at least THRU February 14th.

Pretty much sums it up.

Half a muscle relaxer at bedtime might get you off to a good start.

Look up sciatica. That pain in your rt. leg indicates sciatic nerve pinching. It can indicate muscular hypertension to which that hot bath may help along with muscle relaxers.
But there are many other things that can cause that. This happened before??
If you lucky and it is muscular hypertension I would suggest two weeks off in the Caribbean islands with muscle relaxers and cocktails with two beautiful masseuses.
If you not lucky like me, I ended up with back surgery, and the end of a great time of surfing for almost fifty years!

Stretching/hot water/advil/time, plus what I've done is hang from a pull-up bar. it pulls the spine straight and unloads the vertibrae. That, and hamstring stretches seem to help when mine (sciatica) flares up. Main thing: do NOT twist and lift, and do not lunge or over-extend (like reaching under the bed for a shoe, etc.)

Use a good anti-inflammitory like celebrex- and COLD to reduce inflammation. Or alternate- hot/cold. Go to a sports doctor- he knows how to get you back on your feet quickly.

Drink lots of water. Stretching as soon as you can. Lay on your back on a flat surface and pull your knees to your chest, first one at a time and then both together. Youo actually have to rotate your hips to pull on the muscles in your lower back. Heat helps to loosen things up. Stay away from any dr. with a knife..... had surgery 20+ years ago and it was a majoy mistake. Keep going until you can't go anymore before you let then carve on you.
When you are feeling better start doing crunches, you have a bad back because you have weak abdominals.
I see a chiropractor regularly.

Exactly what I was going to recommend Jim, this worked for me when I injured my back the first time when I was about 21. The quack shop doctor wanted to put me back to work and I refused because my right leg was going numb from a pinched nerve. I tried muscle relaxers, heat and cold and this exercise that a orthopedic specialist fixed it in a week or so. It stretches everything out and allows the spine to re-align itself. One thing just a little different was he told me to pull up my knees and rock back and forth on my back, worked for me.

I had one other experience that also worked for me, is an oriental form of medicine, it's called Ashaitsu. It consists of a girl that walks on your back, that was great, however the person doing it has to know the proper technique for it to be effective. Done correctly though it really helps,. I really had my doubts about it, but I felt great afterwards.

Tried everything.
Muscle relaxers help.
But only thing really helps is bourbon and/or beer...and a cigar.

Is your laundry basket made out of rebar?
