The Stanley Hotel. Built in the early 1900s by the Stanley Steamer automobile makers. Said to be haunted. Steven King wrote The Shining in room 217.

Springfield, IL. Long time home and final resting place of Abraham Lincoln. One of several possible Springfields of The Simpsons. Birthplace of the cozydog (corndog) and horseshoe sandwich. Host city to the International Route 66 Festival. A Hot Rod Power Tour stop, at least three times now. "World's fastest" dirt mile track...hosts ARCA, USAC and "The Springfield Mile" motorcycle races.

I grew up in Willoughby, Ohio and it's the inspiration for the Twilight Zone episode "A Stop at Willoughby".

As the story goes, Rod Serling stayed in Willoughby and found the people very friendly and hospitable and the town, itself, very idyllic.

I still have family there and would LOVE to live there again.

The town I live in (Hermiston, OR) is known for watermelons. Not kidding.
The next town down the freeway (pendleton, OR) is known for a big annual rodeo, and more recently, for a whisky which bears the namesake logo of the pendleton round-up, despite being made in canada and bottled in hood river.

El Reno, Oklahoma is home to the world's largest fried onion hamburger, cooked yearly on first Saturday of May, on "Burger Day". Something like 12 foot diameter, I can't remember...

The first Saturday is home to our "Small Town Weekend", a car event, cruise, and has the (as the promoters have touted...???) countries only legal burnout contest, the only legal deal, I'm sure may not hold water...

We have a bitchin federal prison. Timothy McVeigh was there until he got croaked, the Tylenol killer(may even still be there???, Peter Tork from the Monkees was there for short stint, in the early 70's he said someone slipped something into his suitcase, coming across the border...LOL

I just did a job we signed off on at Sycamore Shoals Park this year. The Watauga Association were said to be the first settlers to form a free republic in America.
