So with that said, I gave the authorization today to move forward with the low rise dual quad intake. I will request pictures throughout the entire project and post them in the forum so everyone can see the progress in another thread out of respect for Don's project. It's already an all over the place topic, but a very interesting and informative mess we have here~!

... at that price range ($6500), have you considered having one made from 6061 Billet and would it be ok if it were a 2 piece design, like down the middle, front to back ??? ...

... and for a bit more money, we could probably make one for you out of an extremely high grade plastic that i have sourced for this purpose, but this material is very exspensive, but extremely lightweight, which obviously would not look factory ...

... so if a single plane 2 piece billet aluminum style manifold is something you might like, give us a call at the shop and ask for Bill, we'd be happy to help you with your project ... (931-459-2760)"Mondello Racing Engines"

... and if the machining marks are something that would concern you, we can needle-scale the surface, and high pressure blast it afterwards, then we can paint it any color you like, then it will look very close to a cast type surface, we could also design a tapered/flange with a counter-sunk bolt, which would help hide the flange, but not completely ...

... now, if there were enough people to generate a "Pre-Order" list, then we could work on the price, as there would be a significant amount of CAD design for a piece like this, a preorder list would be able to spread the CAD costs over a certain amount of manifolds, lowering the price, depending on how many manifolds got pre-ordered ??? ...

... i would need a set of Don's bare castings just for "Reverse-Engineering" purposes, they would be returned as soon as that was completed ...

Thank you Twinturbo406 for the kind offer, but I just gave my commitment today and authorized a good flogging on my wallet with the premise that I will get back an intake that shall look as factory as the real deal. No seams. No weld marks. Bead blasted to have that pebble grain texture as if it was cast. To say the least, I'm a picky SOB and having a split down the middle of the intake is not something I want to play with, but thanks just the same.

... i understand, just keep us posted with pic's of the manifold, if Marcella's doing it for you, you wont know he ever ground on it ...

... i look forward to seeing what you come up with ...

Hope you don't mind a long time viewer chiming in for the first time. Couldn't resist. As far as manifolds go I think we will see affordable one off 3D prototyped manifolds in the near future. These are already showing up on car builds and will only become more prominant. I would not hesitate on a head design because of an intake issue. The luminaries of manifold construction like J.M. will have a new tool to create with if a customer so chooses. The variety of manifold materials is also a huge plus. Lots of good work going on here.

Glad you came to the party.

Well as far as my portion of the peanut gallery goes here, depending upon how well the end product of my intake goes will depict if I will have it 3D scanned for reproduction. Unfortunately it will only fit a stock configuration, but then again, I think only a guy who wants stock looking parts will go for it. Otherwise, I see sheet metal intakes being made for Don's project.

And look at this. 8000 hits and counting on Don's thread. That must speak for itself~!

HA HA! Blew my Chit up? Well, I burnt a hole in my old welded up head because he tried to tune the engine incorrectly.

Yes, I did blow the upper rad hose off and blew water every where. So yes, I guess that was me?

Jeff, not dissing you. I know all about that water hose coming off deal having seen several dyno tests at Steve's shop where the engine was trying to tell us it was not happy.

Brian's engine for one, when the "crooked tree" heads failed the head gasket.

Steve thought the engine needed more timing like a BB Chebby. It turned out it made best power with the timing number I recommended.

I think that a set of "V-Heads" would work well with boost

Whatever happened to the black firebird with V heads and a Vortech blow through on it?

I agree, I think the exhaust/intake pattern and solid option makes it appealing. Since Im running methanol, I see no reason to run water in the heads. I would like to see the solid as-cast street head with 90cc chambers on a boosted engine.

Don, shoot me an email when you get that worked out.

Often wondered about that myself. Saw it at VMP 6 or 7 years ago.

The car belongs to Lee S (who lives about 5 miles from that 4 lane drag strip down south). He had issues with the Cast Iron RA-V heads on the car and went with a set of slightly ported "D-Port Heads" to be able to race.

Still ran some decent times with the car.

I believe that if DCI heads come out, he will buy a set and go back to the RA-V parts on the induction system again.

The car performed just fine, the issues were with the pieces that he had originally.
He could answer questions but he rarely posts on the board any more as his business talkes a lot of his time these days.

I still talk to him and stay in touch.

I am really looking forward to seeing this project hit the streets! Don, I think your right more street guys will step up than racers I think, and they will want a bolt on type intake that looks kind of stock.
as I type this though There will be a fair amount of people with pro stretted or pro touring type street cars that wouldnt cars so much about the cast look as they would just want something they could bolt on. if you had some sheet metal intakes made up and ready to go that would fit under most pontiac hoods, like GTO and 1st and 2nd gen Firebirds, that would cover a good chunk of the market. If someone was crankin out 10-20 intakes as opposed to 1-2 they could get a system down and I would think could cut their cost a bit. And could possibly have a 4 bbl or 2-4bbl option.

Most non pontiac guys at cruise ins and car shows wont know what they are even looking at when they see a set of RA V's since they probably dont know what standard pontiac heads look like either but They sure are cool to us!!

Keep up the good work, If you need a car to prototype an intake on give me a call, I have one of each sittin here!

With the taller height of the head are you going to build up the intake side of the head so the intake manifold of stock proportions fit or would a spacer be needed?
Are you also going to have a stock V intake bolt location or different?

Well after waiting a couple of extra weeks I finally have castings in house!!!!
I'm like a little kid at Christmas right now and can hardly wait to get these machined. The castings look awesome and I see no porosity at all in them. The finish is nice and even and way better than I expected. The casting as it sits right now weights 50 pounds before machining. So I expect them to weight in at around 40 pounds after machining. Which is less than I originally thought.
