Don -

It's interesting that you made the decision to cast the push rod tube foils into the head. I'm just wondering the thought process when you were designing the heads.

Without speaking for Don, the factory style pushrod insert was an added obstruction to the port. With the ability to cast this requirement into the head, it allows for greater control in directing the air through the port. By casting this into the head, the port shape can be made to compliment the obstruction almost dividing the ports into two segments. Similar concepts are used on 4 valve cylinder heads.

Hmmm, run the divider on down the port, put two smaller intake valves in along with a girdle in that massive valve cover area for an overhead cam, and...

Calvin -

Thanks for your thoughts. Though it may be a better control for airflow, I'm wondering if this design would limit your ability to port the heads. After all, it's now twice as hard to smooth out surfaces.

Like Calvin stated, it actually enhances the port. When I get time I will post more in depth pic's of the intake ports. All of my research and testing lead to my port design. When you see the actual port design you will see it actually is two ports in one. I found that by adding a vane to the roof and floor the port got happy.

No limitation at all.

Nothing a good carbide and some machining can't change IF you wanted to go back to the factory design.

As far as porting, using the right size tools will do the trick.

They turned out some nice castings !

Cast-In pushrod/port divider concept sounds real interesting too.

Don't tell anybody i asked ... but will BigBlok Chevy headers match the exhaust port layout ? Just wondering if their plentiful ready made headers could be incorporated.

Sorry it so long to get these posted. I went to visit my daughter in Tennessee for Easter over the weekend.

I shot a picture of one of the cad drawings as well showing the port shape. If you look close at the inside of the intake port. You can see the vanes I put in the port that are actually extensions of the pushrod tubes. Like I said earlier, by doing this the port got happy by limiting the turbulence the tube was creating. Obviously the tubes are larger than they need to be when cast, but that has to be to make the casting pour well. In an essence I created two individual ports behind the tube. They just share the same valve.

Just remember, all holes cost lots of money. Pick one that is right for you.

I have a serious question Don -

Are you going to put the spark plug holes in the stock position? I find it interesting that you have made the decision to not cast a combustion chamber. How does this all play out or is that still to be seen in post design production?

We do have a chamber design that I am going to start with. The reason for not putting a chamber in the head is to basically have a clean canvas to start from. Through the years of my cylinder head porting (30+). I have run into limitations with many of the different heads and their combustion chambers. It is really not a huge deal with aluminum heads because you can weld them up easy enough, but iron heads your limited. So I decided that I was not going to limit my head by casting the heads with a chamber. This way if someone is going to use nitrous or a blower which requires a different chamber configuration. They can design it with a cad program and it can be plugged into the cnc, and machined into the casting when they are being done. I want this head to be as versatile as possible and be able to cover a wide range of applications. I think with the separated exhaust port arrangement that this head has. These heads will not generate the heat in the center that our traditional siamesed exhaust port layout does currently. In turn should help the head gasket issues we have with the other style heads. Not to mention the extra thick deck surface I designed into these heads which will help as well.

The spark plug location can be changed as well and is not set in stone with this head. Spark plug location is very crucial in making maximum horsepower and this allows the engine builder to move things around to their liking. Usually the most ideal location is as close to the center of the piston as you can get it. I am going to try to get the spark plug in my off the shelf chamber as close to that position as possible.

I forgot to mention. You won't believe how many people have fingered the different orifices in this head LOL. Looking at the pic's and letting your imagination run wild. I guess I can see how one could enjoy feeling it up. I know I have LOL.

Well, you know as well as I, holes are meant to be touched. I think it's human nature to stick your fingers in things....;o)

Funny thing - A long time college good friend of mine had his son over the other day. As you can see, the 69 Trans Am hood has big scoops right up front. His kid could not help, but to slide both hands into the openings and feel around. That says it all.

So I would assume you have cut files for the CNC machine to cut chambers and spark plug holes? This is something that I would not want to tackle myself and would leave that up to a machinist expert like yourself.

I'm just a designer.
