Question Doesn't Look as Bad In Person as In Photos?

Evidentially this is a new trend in American vehicle marketing and advertising; the disclaimer "...it doesn't look as bad in person as it does in photos..." Have been reading this lately that this is said of the latest Corvette offering, and even mentioned during Autoshow presentations.

Well here it is but again; this time about the 2014 Chrysler Jeep Cherokee.

Check it out:

I read another article elsewhere that a Chrysler exec responded to criticism that it's damn ugly and not off road capable by saying something along the lines of "It's not what consumers think of when they think 'Jeep', but they'll eventually like it". Glad to see that GM is not the only one that ignores what the public wants.

I do like the looks of the front end. Rear looks like chit. Interior not so good either. I like my 2000 Jeep GC more than this one.... especially with the Select-Trak I have now. Not at all crazy about full time 4 wheel drive with option of 4WD low. I wonder if the Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud are any good at all.

Trying for a Japanese look I see. Always trying to alienate a committed segment to reduce sales

I remember at a POCI convention when the Aztec was being unveiled and folks
at the convention were proudly shown the prototype that hadn't been seen by the
general public yet. People in the crowd broke out into laughter when the presenter
from Pontiac announced that sales were projected to be 75,000 vehicles per year.
The guy then proclaimed that it was new and daring and that people would love it after
the got "used to" the styling!

"...it doesn't look as bad in person as it does in photos...

Reminds me of my old roomate........... he had a part time Indian girl friend with no teeth, at least most of the time she didn't wear her dentures and never when she was drinking, wasn't what you called photogenic, but as John always pointed out she could suck a golf ball thru a garden hose.

So with a good set of beer goggles John was one happy camper!

Thumbs down

It's like saying "she doesn't sweat much for a fat girl," only about a car.

This post immediately made me think about when I was a kid and obsessed with the Lamborghini Countach. I had all the posters, models, etc. To my eyes it was the most gorgeous thing man ever made. Then I finally saw one in person. I don't know how it could be possible, but it was so much better in person. So low and wide. Incredible! Sad that I don't think I'm going to feel that reaction again to a new car.

They would drive the roads arround here with the "bags" over the front and back to hide the new look...... looked better with the bags!
