Default 68 Door Sill

A friend and I pulled the interior out of his 68 last Saturday to install console brackets. And we found these strange pins/nails that were driven into the sill's on both sides in the same location! The carpet was original. Maybe the factory used these to stake the carpet in place while installing it?
