very nicely optioned car, lots of the good stuff without the a/c to get in the way and a great color in the Sundance especially if the vinyl top were left off. Looks like it's running and driving well enough to possibly do a driven resto on it somewhat like what NJSteve is doing to his current black Formula.

In MY observations......MOST LS5 W66's are "heavily optioned".....I'd say MOST were "customer order" cars.
Might be fun to do the "math"...a loaded T/A was probably CHEAPER.... I'd say this one has GREAT potential.....most of the important stuff is still there.

Im starting to like those Formulas more then the Trans Am's lately. Man that car is hot looking. Im going to have to go find that issue in my basement and have another look.

..in looking at this car, someone went thru a lot of trouble *and expense* to do a complete color change. i can understand if it was wrecked at one time or something like that but this one looks to be in better shape then most other Birds of this era.....
 i'm guessing it's not full of Bondo, but then again i have  ....there's no doubt that at one point, this thing was in pieces IMO....

Yup, with the firewall, fender wells, and core support all having been painted to match the color change, it sure looks like this car was apart. Sold new in Placerville CA which is just above Sacramento, and it's in Fremont CA now, so it looks like it's been a NorCal car it's whole life. Therefore, rust issues should be minimal.
However, it's going to need to come apart again to repaint it the correct color, and if you're taking the front clip apart, doors, glass, etc to paint it right, you're going to pull the dash to repaint that area, and you're going buy new (GM) weatherstrips, and polish the brightwork, and buy the correct Rally II's, and new tires. While the engine is out to paint the firewall you may as well blast the subframe and redo the suspension. Better go through the brakes while you're at it. And while the engine is on a stand you may as well pull the pan and look inside, etc.... If you give a mouse a cookie! It would be a cool car when you're done though. Quote:

BTW those are vintage cast aluminum American Racing Wheel 200S "Daisy" wheels. Those are probably a $1000 set of mags when cleaned up nicely. That might offset some of the restoration costs.
Looks like a reasonably easy resto if you like getting your hands dirty. And being a California car all its life you wont be paying a whole lot for rust repairs. |
