Gentlemen:

I love doing my own restoration work. But I am hitting a wall with working 60 hours a week with a family and everything else and I am turning 50. I have attempting to complete this project for six years. The engine, transmision, rearend have all been completed. I want to complete this project before I die.

I have made the decision I need some professional on my 68 gto restoration. So I am asking for recommendation. I know this type of work is not cheap but I want the work complete properly. So I am turning you fellow member.

Want I am need of is a good reliable body shop. The GTO needs the right quarter panel replaced. It also needs the both fenders repaired. Lastly. a new paint.

Get several quotes from different reputable shops, ask for references from past customers, see if they will let you see their cars. Plan out all the work you want done and put it in a contract along with a total cost and time frame to complete work. You may also want to put in penalties for not completing the work on time, but be reasonable, maybe for every month it's late you get 10% off. If you don't, every collision that comes in the shop will be put ahead of your project and it will sit untouched for months. Of course with any project you can't predict every situation, you must work with the shop when cost adding problems pop up, agree on terms in writing, sort of an addendum to the contract. Also take anything off of the car that you don't want to risk getting damaged, like say you bought new wheels and emblems, leave them at home until they are needed.

FYI,I wont buy another car that needs body work or paint in SoCal!Just do your leg work and be very careful.The Judge sat at a shop I have been using for the last 10 years or so and never had a problem.ALL were scratch and shoot cars and were out in a couple weeks.Because this car needed body work it sat and sat and sat.I was there over a year!Good luck and be prepared for a major number.Tom
