Hey Baron...I found the Formula Steering Wheel option 464/NK3 available with option 501 only (Power Steering) in John Gunnell's "Catalog of Firebird"...here are some pix you asked about...the carb # does not seem correct for a '71, but maybe for a '72 non- HO 455?...but mine does have the vented float bowl for Ram Air, which wouldn't be a non-HO would it?...dunno...#2 owner did change the carb out because the one on the motor when he got the car developed a vacuum leak that did not respond to repair attempts...

If I'm reading that carb number correct "7042262" it would be for a Non HO, '72 455 Auto car.

If you've ever tried to parallel park a 3600 lb. car with manual steering & the engine weight over the front wheels,you'd know.....

Also,the aluminum frame of the Formula wheel would get bent,I'm sure.

Looks like a SR reman good for a 71 455 HO 4 speed with plug and others?

Correct for this car would be 7041267 with a date late 1970. 455HO 4 speed Non RA....

Will you post for sale here now that ebay ended?

Not a guru, but IF the formula had factory RA it would have the 273, and some stick TA's got the 273 too....

Right now I'm trying to get through a bunch of emails that came today just before the auction closed...here's my ebay warning for anyone...a prospective bidder advised me that he tried to throw a bid on my car at the last minute, and that ebay would not let his bid go through...he asked me to contact ebay to see what the problem was with my account. Ebay told me (from some pit in the Philippines) that ,yes there seemed to be a problem, and that my account seemed locked for some reason... but that he was not trained to fix it...by the time I was finally connected to some guy higher up the coconut tree, the auction had expired...I have a friend in Reno Nevada that is pushing me to trailer my car to Reno for this year's Hot August Nights event where he's confident the car will sell (my Buddy sells 2 cars at this event every year)...I'm not really in the mood to drag my car on a 10-12 hour tow (gettin' told for this stuff), but I'm keeping all options open at this time...and I would be glad to list my car on the PY site...just have to let the dust settle, and give my "lumps" a chance to heal...

Food for thought......was your auction a "fish" for maximum bid or did you have a # in mind (selling price)?

I'd relist it with your actual selling price posted & maybe put your phone # in the listing...(for serious buyers)

Ebay is probably the BEST national advertising tool for your car (other than HERE)...& I know a lot of deals do go down AFTER the auction ends.....

Post a link to your auction in the Cars for Sale here on the Forums & you've got both bases covered....

I agree with 2manyT/A'S advice. ebay is great in getting ur car out there to the masses, but, it carries a lot of bs with it sometimes and it can be frustrating. Reno is a great place to get your car exposed to a lot car enthusiast in person.

working on a 71 H.O, noticing some things that I have not personally seen yet....

first is the heater hose bracket to the head, bare steel with engine paint.

second, the starter motor bracket, bare steel with engine paint. Also noticed the engine mounts appeared to be on when the engine was painted as well, which would explain the starter wire metal looms and mounts having engine paint on them as well. The middle picture is engine color, the lighting plays games with the color.

I can only tell you what I saw when I got my car. #2 owner had the motor rebuilt previously, but no paint or detailing had been done. When I pulled the motor to clean it up a bit (pull the pan and valve covers to see stuff) the heater hose bracket, the motor mounts, and the starter stuff were all old faded black, and bare metal in patches. There was no engine paint on them, or on any of the wires. I'm attaching a picture of a new '71 455 HO motor in one of the books I used as reference. It's hard to see, but the heater hose bracket is black in this photo. Hope this helps, but I really don't know what original was supposed to be. Any of the cars I checked out along the way of fixing mine up were detailed by their current owners, and not reliably original in my mind. Maybe someone who has done more of this stuff can tell you better...

I am curious if the 72 HOs with their factory "net" hp/tq ratings performed similar to the 71 HOs (i.e. quarter mile times, etc).

Similar - but NOT identical.

The '71s had the so-called 800 CFM Q-Jet and the as-cast exhaust ports on the 1971 "197" casting cylinder heads were less restrictive than the "7F6" exhaust ports. That and the '72 carbs were calibrated EXTREMELY lean from the factory.

if i understood right, the 72 head has better low lift flow than the 71. not that sure how it effects stock running as they were very close, but heard the 71s were better for aftermarket higher lift cams.

I'll be at the co-vention in Dayton and I will be sporting some 455-HO.com shirts I made up. They will have the 455-HO air cleaner logo on a black moisture wicking T-shirt. I also made a banner for my garage, and maybe for car shows when my HO is ready. Here's the logo that will be on the shirts and banner. Shirts should be ready sometime this week. Ill post up a pic when I get them in. Ill have some for sale if anyone is interested. Let e know what ya think.

First glance looks like 45S HO....very nice but that 5 font on the end looses something, in the larger size wrapped or whatever its called... imo.
